Week 12 Game Discussion Thread

Texas state trooper who had run-in with South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor was sent home from game

90

A Texas trooper who had an altercation with South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor after his touchdown on Saturday was sent home from the game, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

Harbor scored on an 80-yard reception in the second quarter and ran into the tunnel limping following the score. As he and three other players were walking back to the field, the trooper walked in between Harbor and another player and bumped into them as they passed each other.

The trooper and Harbor turned around and the trooper pointed at Harbor with both hands and said something to him. Harbor was quickly pushed away by his teammate and they continued to the field.

The public safety department issued a statement saying the trooper was sent home.

“Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time,” the statement reads.

Boo Carter (DB Tennessee, transfer to ???)

Boo Carter no longer part of Tennessee football, to transfer

Tennessee defensive back/punt returner Boo Carter is no longer a member of the football team, a team official confirmed to ESPN on Sunday, ending his short and tumultuous career with the Volunteers.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Carter didn't show up at Neyland Stadium for the No. 23 Volunteers' 42-9 victory against New Mexico State on Saturday.

The source told ESPN that Carter had been informed by the coaching staff that he wasn't going to play against the Aggies because of disciplinary issues. But the coaches still expected Carter to attend the homecoming game and watch from the sideline.

When Volunteers coach Josh Heupel was asked about Carter's status following Saturday's game, he said: "At the end of the day, there's a standard you've got to meet to be in that locker room, so he was not out on the field with us. That will be my last response to anything related to that for right now."

Carter, a former ESPN 300 recruit in the Class of 2024, had 25 tackles, three forced fumbles, three passes defended and one sack as a backup nickelback in eight games this season. He averaged 13.2 yards on 11 punt returns.

Carter didn't play a defensive snap in the Volunteers' 33-27 loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 1 because of a coach's decision.

Shortly after school officials confirmed Sunday that Carter was no longer a member of the team, he announced on social media that he won't play the rest of the season due to injury and plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens Jan. 2.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank The University of Tennessee Coaches, administrators and fans for a wonderful 2 years," Carter wrote. "Unfortunately my season has been cut short due to injury. I have decided to enter the transfer portal and I am excited about the opportunities going forward!"

College Football Trolling

Arizona, Texas A&M lead top trolls in college football Week 12

It's getting a little late in the season, but teams haven't let up on trolling their opponents quite yet.

Take the Arizona Wildcats, for example. Facing off against the No. 25 Cincinnati Bearcats, their Big 12 conference rivals, Arizona gutted out a nervy 30-24 win. The Wildcats went down 14-7 in the first quarter, but scored 20 points in the second half, pulling ahead for good on a 50-yard touchdown run by Kedrick Reescano.

After the game, the Wildcats' social media team posted a graphic of their triumphant mascot looking on as the Bearcats' mascot spilled a bucket of Skyline Chili -- Cincinnati's most famous culinary export -- on the field.

Arizona wasn't the only team to deliver an online jab on its opponents. Here are all the top trolls from around college football in Week 12.

South Carolina was up 30-3 over No. 3 Texas A&M at halftime, and if they'd scored any points at all in the second half, they would have won. That wasn't to be the case, however, as the Aggies locked in on defense and turned on the jets on offense. Marcel Reed threw for 439 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, and EJ Smith scored a game-winning four-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

The Aggies were in an understandably jubilant mood after the game and celebrated by re-upping the classic "look at all those chickens" Vine. They also added the Gamecocks' logo to the chair where they record all their victories and made sure South Carolina knew exactly how many unanswered points they gave up.

Last Chance U (Netflix Series)

John Beam, the Laney College athletic director and former football coach who was featured in Netflix's "Last Chance U," died Friday morning after being shot on campus Thursday, authorities said. A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting, the Oakland Police Department said Friday.

The incident, the second school-related shooting in Oakland in as many days, occurred just before noon at the college's fieldhouse. Officers found Beam suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was taken to a hospital. The college was placed on lockdown shortly afterward.

"My thoughts are with coach John Beam and his loved ones," Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee shared in a statement. "We are praying for him. Coach Beam is a giant in Oakland -- a mentor, an educator and a lifeline for thousands of young people. For over 40 years, he has shaped leaders on and off the field, and our community is shaken alongside his family."

Beam, 66, became a nationally recognized figure after "Last Chance U" chronicled Laney's 2019 season. Before retiring as coach in 2024 and moving into the athletic director position, he led the program to two league championships and a 2018 state title, a season in which Laney finished 11-2 and was ranked the top community college team in the country. He also maintained a 90% graduation and transfer rate for his players, according to CBS News.
