Don't know whether it's youthful exuberance, or dumb waste of time. Do like that Diebs was swinging for the fences. Unless one crosses a 5*'s palm with a bunch of NIL coin, hard to see them forgoing a UK, Kansas, Duke, NC etc for the likes of Ohio State. Always the chance that a couple of these VHT kids decide to go to a place, and take that program to the moon. At least it's good practice for Diebs to prepare for the Ohio kids that are coming up. Go Bucks!

NASCAR to hold Cup race in Mexico City next June

NASCAR will take its elite Cup Series international for the first points-paying race outside the United States with a June 2025 stop in Mexico City.

The Cup Series will race at storied Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where NASCAR and track officials have a Tuesday morning news conference to announce the June 15 race, track officials told The Associated Press.

NASCAR's second-tier Xfinity Series and NASCAR Mexico Series will be part of the weekend.

The Xfinity Series ran in Mexico City from 2005 to 2008, and current Cup Series stars Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. were winners during the four-year stretch.

But the Cup Series has never gone international in the modern era for anything besides exhibition races. The Cup Series held exhibitions in Japan between 1996 and 1998, plus once in Australia in 1988.

The only two points-paying Cup races previously held internationally were in Canada. The first was at Stamford Park in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in 1952, then at Canadian Exposition Center in Toronto in 1958.

Now NASCAR will take its stars -- including Mexican driver Daniel Suarez -- to the same circuit beloved by Formula 1 fans. The Mexico City Grand Prix was voted the best event on the F1 calendar until the fan-decided polling ended during the pandemic.

The 17-turn road course is 2.674 miles long and sits at an elevation of 7,342 feet. The track was built in 1959 and named for racing hermanos (brothers) Pedro and Ricardo Rodriguez. The circuit has hosted eight F1 races since a 2015 remodel.

Boston Red Sox (9x World Series Champions)

Rich Hill, 44, rejoins Red Sox with shot to pitch in 20th season

Rich Hill is back in the majors, nearly two decades and more than a dozen teams since he made his big league debut.

The Boston Red Sox selected the 44-year-old lefty from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday as Hill tries to add a little more history to a lengthy career. One outing in 2024 would make him the only active player to appear in a game in each of the past 20 seasons.

"He looks great physically. He's always taking care of that part. He's excited to be back," manager Alex Cora said before the Red Sox hosted the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. "He was very diligent the last few months about his craft. He's always done it. So now, no doubt about him that physically, he's going to be OK, throw the ball well."

With an injury-depleted pitching staff, it's unclear how the Red Sox plan to utilize Hill and where he might fill in. He's willing to provide whatever the club needs, Cora said.

Appropriately wearing No. 44 on his uniform, Hill could join former Boston teammate Tim Wakefield as the only pitchers to appear in a game for the Red Sox at age 44 or older.

Wakefield holds the club mark at 45, when he last pitched on Sept. 25, 2011. The knuckleballer died last October and is being honored by the Red Sox with a No. 49 patch on their jersey sleeves this season.

This is Hill's fourth stint with the Red Sox, who signed him to a minor league deal Aug. 16. Hill threw two scoreless innings in a start Friday for Worcester, striking out two, walking one and hitting a batter with a pitch.

He has pitched for 13 major league teams, one short of Edwin Jackson's record.

Hill, born in Boston, is 90-73 with a 4.01 ERA in 382 career games, including 248 starts. He also pitched for the Red Sox from 2010 to '12, then again in 2015 and 2022. He spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres.

Hill made his big league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2005. He also has pitched for Baltimore, Cleveland, Oakland, the Angels, Yankees, Dodgers, Twins, Rays and Mets.

A five-star recruit, Scott was considered the No. 36 prospect and No. 6 cornerback in the 2024 cycle per 247Sports' composite rankings. In his senior year at Springfield, Scott recorded 21 tackles, two tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Scott has impressed Ohio State secondary coach Tim Walton with his play so far in preseason camp.

"He's competitive, coachable, has a passion to play the game, wants to learn and has a lot of energy, man," Walton said of Scott earlier this month. "That's a part of it, man, you have to have passion and energy to learn the game and he does a great job with it."

P Drue Chrisman (All-B1G)

Cam Newton wants to hire former Ohio State punter for interesting role

USATSI_15313479-2.jpg

Former Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman has always been an outstanding storyteller. From his days of bottle-flipping with the Buckeyes to his quest to be an NFL punter, Chrisman has always drawn fans closer in unique ways.

Recently, Chrisman documented his tryout with the Washington Commanders which unfortunately didn’t end with a spot on the team. Much to the chagrin of the Commanders, Chrisman posted his journey to social media where the Commanders asked him to take the short documentary down. To this date, the video is still on Chrisman’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton caught wind of Chrisman’s talents. After checking out the documentary for himself, he gave a shout-out to the former Buckeye and invited him to come work for him at his production company Iconic Saga saying “You don’t need to punt anymore.”

Old life. New life.

After almost 60 years on Ohio State's campus, the Bier Stube will cease operations the weekend of Sept. 21, the bar announced in a Facebook post on Monday. 2025 OH WR Preston Bowman (Kentucky Signee)

Per Matt Parker, Phillip Bell is likely to pick Ohio State this week

Jerome Myles and Preston Bowman are the two options Hartline is considering for the fifth WR spot in this class.

Sounds like the final number will be five WRs.
If Bell does pick the good guys (fingers crossed), I could see the staff continuing to recruit Bowman until we get a better sense of where we're at with Myles...after watching film on Myles, I'm absolutely buying the hype there. Would also love to see Bowman in this class though.

2025 AL OT Micah DeBose (Alabama Signee)

Can certainly see why TSC is working this guy. Refer to the Dan Jenkins book, where the QB says, "WRs keep my name in the headlines. The OL keeps my name out of the obituaries". Believe that we all support that. Having said that, I am of the opinion that this season the OL will be substantially better, and meet expectations (which are always unreasonably high at tOSU). tOSU is set to lose four (?) OL to the draft or exhaustion of eligibility. The kids coming up seem to be solid players, but won't know if they're exceptional, until they show out on the field (or not). tOSU would certainly be a place for DeBose to grow and shine, whether he's blocking for Sayin, TSC, or ? Anyone remember who Pace leap-frogged to start, back in the day? Go Bucks!

Week 0 Games Discussion

Well Week 0 got off to a fantastic start, the F$U GT game was really fun to watch from start to finish. Plus I hate F$U, so it is awesome to see them go down in a game they were heavily favored in and in dramatic fashion. I had a fantasy draft after that game where we BBQ and drink like the world is ending, so I didn't really catch most of the other games.

On to Week 1 after my hangover from the draft goes away. Looking forward to Minnesota vs UNC on Thursday night. Then Saturday we have quite a few good ones (obviously excited for our game). UGA vs Clemson should be very entertaining (wish it wasn't a 10am MT game but whatever). PSU vs West Virginia could be a good one. Miami vs Florida. ND vs A&M. Then USC vs LSU on Sunday. Damn good slate for the first week.
Too much of a good thing.

Little League World Series

Lake Mary walks off Chinese Taipei to win Florida's first-ever Little League World Series championship

Florida teams were previously 0-8 in Little League World Series title games all-time

Lake-Mary-LLWS-.jpg

The boys from Lake Mary, Florida walked it off against Chinese Taipei in extra innings to win the Little League World Series, 2-1, in thrilling fashion on Sunday night.

A Florida team was 0-8 in LLWS title games all-time, but Lake Mary had been fighting tooth and nail throughout this series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, facing four elimination games just to reach the final against the squad from Taoyuan, Taiwan – a squad that didn't lose any of the five games they've played since hitting the States.

After Lathan Norton finished his 3.2 innings with a scare, as Taoyuan's Hu Yen-Chun flew out to the warning track in the top of the eighth inning, he went to second base to begin the bottom of the eighth in a 1-1 game.

The last hitter in Lake Mary's lineup, Hunter Alexander, came up in a clear bunt scenario, where he was only thinking about moving Norton over to third base.

But Taoyuan, perhaps the team with the best fundamentals in the tournament, didn't have someone covering first base when Alexander laid down his bunt to the right side.

The ball was thrown away, and Lake Mary celebrated immediately as Norton came around third base for the winning run.
