2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

I did, and I like that idea. I noticed that you cleverly (either intentionally or not) left out the words "Big Ten" and "SEC", even though we all know that 80% of the time both are getting those 2 spots. But 20% of the time, ACC or Big 12 will zurp into one of those spots.
I think my example of Ohio State and Indiana was a tangent to my point: why play the 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 games? Again, I like football and would enjoy those games. But why would #3 Oregon care about playing #6 Iowa? If they win, they're in the playoff. If they don't play the game, they're in the playoff. What if they lose? Might they be out? I mean, we hear that the playoff committee isn't going to punish teams for losing the CCG's. But would they punish the #3's for losing to #6?

I remember that idea, and it isn't so bad, except that you're making all 3 OOC games totally meaningless. Remember when Northwestern went 0-3 in their OOC games, including losing to Miami (OH) (or someone else in the MAC)? Then they went 8-1 in conference, and won the western division. And, even if we say that there are no divisions, anymore, it's possible for them to have gone 9-0 in conference. In this scenario, those 3 games mean nothing. Why play meaningless games?
If you're going to do this, increase the conference games to 10, and everyone will just schedule 2 shlub home games. Then make all games count for your conference record. All 12.
I think Petitti’s idea was to make the 3-vs-6 and 4-vs-5 matchups as play-in games, so the B1G would have 4 teams in the playoff: 1, 2, and the 2 play-in winners. It was part of an expanded playoff model with the B1G and the SEC both guaranteed 4 spots.

I think there would be years where it’s problematic, With so many teams in a conference now, it’s actually possible to have 3 undefeated teams after the regular season. There would certainly be years where a deserving 1-loss #3 team could get nailed by a 4-loss #6 team.

I don’t support the play-in concept. They won’t stay at 12 CFP teams, and I really want them to only expand to 14 with the 2 byes for CCG winners. Having the extra games during CCG week is my way of allowing them to get an extra 10 games of football to appease the greed for TV dollars without expanding the playoff beyond 4 rounds. The 10 being 2 more CFP games due to 2 less byes, and a pair of 3/6 and 4/5 matchups for each of the Power-4.

I really think it‘s important to retain the value of the CCGs by having only the 2 byes.

I think that's where all this NIL mess really mucks things up. It's conceivable that the mom has already accepted money from people associated with Tennessee. If there's a real contract on that, she'd likely be on the hook for that if he transfers?

feel bad for the kid but if everything Ive read about his mom/family are true then no thanks

Just another comment. Was surprised to see Tegra play all/most of the game. He's been the weak link on the OL this year, so was surprised. However, he did in fact play his best game. Nary a penalty, and do not believe Sayin was pushed in any way. So, the OL did their job. Also, agree that the other safety did a great job. Bet Patricia has him penciled in to replace Downs next year....

Problem with that is you still have teams playing an extra game, risking injury, etc. when compared to other teams that just sit and wait. It all needs to just get blown up. Either shrink the Conferences back to 10, or split them into divisions. ONLY and I fucking mean it, and said the same thing last year... ONLY conference champions get into the playoff. I say 8 teams, but whatever, I don't care. Take all subjectivity out of it, win divisionals, go to regionals, win regionals, go to nationals. If fucking Glee can figure that shit out, so can the NCAA.
I'm with you. Four conferences each with two divisions, each division having eight teams. Divisional teams play each of the other teams in their division, and one emerges as the division winner. They play the other division winner in the conference championship game. Conference champions advance to the playoffs. Does a 3-5th place conference team really have any business in the playoffs? They couldn't even place in their own conference. This is all a fantasy though. I can't see it ever happening.

On another note....has anybody been on U-Tube lately? Seems like there are a dozen plus folk (none of which I've seen or heard of), wearing a Buckeye hat, and espousing how great the team is....certainly piling on the bandwagon, and for no apparent reason. Maybe there are legit, and I've had my head in the sand, and don't recall if they have 'inside' poop, or just regurgitating what's already known. Anyway, though I'd ask y'all.

B1G CCG: #1 tOSU vs #2 Indiana in Indy, Sat. Dec 6th, 8 ET on FOX

And that's why Indiana has the point in 'intangibles'. tOSU will surely be in the playoffs, win or lose, one talking head asked who'd be the four bye teams, and he replied: Big Ten champ, SEC champ, Big 12 champ, and runner-up in Big Ten. But let us not forget that ALL the top four picks lost in their first and only game last year....Don't believe that Day will not give an inspired speech to the troops, but Cignetti gives one for the ages. Buckeyes 35-14.

Week 15/CCG Game Discussion Thread

Rules - couldn't go to the Rose Bowl to redeem themselves for the loss to Michigan in 69 because the Big Ten only allowed one team to go bowling and no back-to-back, and then Jim Plunkett, Randy Vataha, and a good linebacker for the upset in 70. With a big win in the Rose Bowl, that 69 team would have finished #1. Same with the 70.
I hate to say this in those years winning the Bowl games were not the biggest priority for the players. They enjoyed the hoopla and opportunity to go California and enjoy the experience the game itself was not Michigan or a ranked opponent in the Big 10 especially since you couldn’t go but every other year.

2002 will probably be my favorite season because of my stage in life and personal experience. It was the first year I ever got to go to a game in person and I went to 6 in total that year thanks to my dad's awesome boss at the time giving us tickets. I was only in middle school then but I had my core memories of OSU football being losses to scUM every year, Cooper blowing it in almost every major game, and zero titles to that point despite insanely loaded teams. But that season I got to go to a ton of games, including a front row seat to Holy Buckeye (I thought Krenzel was throwing the ball to me). That was the year I really developed my love for OSU football alongside my dad at every game.

But throwing that aside, I have enjoyed the hell out of this season but there's still a lot more to be done to determine this team amongst others. But The Game this year was one of the tops for me to end a regular season. So much redemption for the coaches, players and fans to enjoy. Plus the snow made it have the feel of an old school showdown with ttun. It's been a great year that could end up being one of the best, but we'll have to see what happens from here on out for me to say it's my favorite overall season. It is definitely top 2 for me right now.

What’s crazy is the quickest way to sign with Ohio state (if the thing about his mom is true) would be to sign with Tennessee this week. Transfer portal opens Jan 2 and he can jump in and move to Ohio state. Otherwise he’d have to wait until Feb to sign with OSU.

Woody should have done it in 1969.
