I'm going to touch on this on our podcast this week.
Why were Saban, Miles, and O (as well as 3 Baseball coaches) all able to reach the mountaintop at LSU but Kelly wasn't?
those 3 all got to LSU at a point in their careers where they all still had something to prove. They all knew LSU could provide all of the pieces to be able to prove it, but they also knew that THEY had to prove it. And all of them did whatever it took to get there. They approached the job with the same passion the fans have for the team. They chased Championships. And all 3 got one.
Kelly came here with just one piece missing from his resume. Probably was getting into the Hall of Fame even with that piece missing.
Kelly approached the job as if LSU being LSU would be enough on its own to bring a title to him. He didn't chase it. He expected it to fall in his lap. It was like he truly believed it was ND's fault he didn't already have one and that LSU would just give him one if he just graced us with his presence.
And honestly, the team even looked like they too thought they just had to "show up" to win.
and as we all know, College Football doesn't work that way.
you have to go out and take it.
yeah LSU has every conceivable tool you'll ever need to win titles. But if you don't use every single one of them, you ain't gonna win one, because somebody else out there is using all of his.
Say what you will about the current state of CFB and NIL..
Winning still comes down to basic fundamentals and principles. Chief among those things, to me, are people skills and having charisma. Kelly is a self serving arrogant prick. He rubs his players and coaches and fan bases the wrong way at every turn and in true Massachusetts politician form he excels at the double speak and blame game.
He can sell himself better than a hooker at a port city does to sailors. But unlike those whores who will give you a good time for your STD diagnosis, Kelly gives you nothing in return.
I laughed when LSU hired him. It was never a good fit.
Honestly the best fit for Kelly is in Ann Arbor. Those arrogant jack offs are made for each other.
I don’t care for the SEC but I’ve always admired LSU because my mom (Slidell, LA) like them. ( I just wish they would wear the purple jersey with the yellow pants and lids because it’s the most perfect uniform in football outside of Columbus).
They could have done better than Kelly. They need to hit a HR with the next coach because NIL had evened the national playing field and coaching matters even more now than just stacking players.
