Ohio State offers multiple recruits on the first day of spring practice

The Buckeyes also added more names to their spring visitor list.
It is spring time in Ohio again. While it may not yet officially be spring from a seasonal sense, the Ohio State football team had its first spring practice on Monday, and that is the real changing of the season in Columbus.
Ryan Day mentioned Monday that he is experiencing less stress this offseason as opposed to a year ago, thanks to a championship run in the newly-expanded College Football Playoffs. However, do not get that confused with him and the Ohio State coaching staff as being less busy this time around.
The Ohio State practice facilities were crowded Monday morning for the Buckeyes first spring practice. The coaches, players and the media were all in attendance but many recruits were also in attendance on unofficial visits. The Buckeyes had a big group of recruits on campus Monday, and this is only the first of many.
Practice itself also went well by all accounts. This year’s roster of current Buckeyes took the field for the first time and we were able to see glimpses of the new Ohio State defense and the quarterbacks fighting it out for the starting spot. There were successes off the field as well as the Buckeyes also had solid recruiting visits as well, with a handful ending with scholarship offers.
Multiple recruits left Columbus with an official scholarship offer, including 2026 four-star running back Favor Akih (Delaware, OH / Rutherford B Hayes).
The Ohio native is familiar with the Buckeyes and the visit Monday was not his first. He has been in contact with Ohio State for some time now and he has a solid relationship already with Buckeyes’ running back coach Carlos Locklyn. The offer Monday was just the next step in the process.
Ohio State has made it a priority to keeps the state’s best recruits in Ohio and the coaching staff seems to be applying that mindset to Akih’s recruitment. The Buckeyes are not alone in recruiting him though, as he hold more than 20 scholarship offers from the likes of Miami, Pitt, USC, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Cincinnati, Louisville, Missouri and others. He also has official visits scheduled with Miami, Pitt and USC as well.
Akih is the No. 15 RB in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and he is also the No. 205 overall prospect. He is also the No. 8 recruit out of Ohio.
The next recruit to receive a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes was 2026 four-star wide receiver Gordon Sellers (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day School).
Sellers is a relatively new name in the Ohio State 2026 recruiting class and they are not alone. The North Carolina receiver has seen his stock quickly grow in the last few months, including receiving nearly 10 scholarship offers since the turn of the month and now he can add Ohio State to that list.
While his recruitment may have just recently taken off, there are some teams that have already built strong relationships with and he has official visits already scheduled with Michigan, Georgia, South Carolina and Clemson. That being said Ohio State and new offensive coordinator Brian Hartline have proven success at developing the nation’s top receivers and turning them into NFL prospects so they are never out of a recruitment they enter into.
Sellars is the No. 33 WR in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and he is the No. 203 overall recruit. HE isalso the No. 13 recruit out of North Carolina.
The last recruit to take to social media Monday to show off their Ohio State offer was 2028 edge Jackson Vaughn (Oradell, NJ / Bergen Catholic).
Vaughn is obviously very early into his recruitment but he has already shown plenty of promise. He holds nearly 30 scholarship offers already from some of the best schools across the country including Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Washington, etc.
247Sports has not yet come out with their rankings for the 2028 recruiting class yet but when they do, Vaughn’s ranking will likely reflect the strong amount of interest he has already received.
