Higher Ed. firings and resignations

Here in California, long ago, there was the Bakke case. White sued a university (Cal, seem to recollect), that they accepted a less qualified minority person than he into their medical/legal school. Won the case, on a hush-hush basis, and was accepted. Reverse discrimination has been around as long as the DEI programs were pushed forward. Since my college years are well behind me, and daughter is through with her schooling, haven't paid much attention. But if these universities accept the federal funding, must also accept the federal gotcha's.
It will be interesting to see if the "elite" schools start complying with this by increasing their enrollment of highly qualified Asian-Americans (who at times get quotaed like Jews used to) at the expense of less-qualified white kids.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

Boom.

Two female former student athletes from the University of Michigan have filed a federal lawsuit against the university and its former assistant football coach

"His ability to do so was aided by the University and the Regents both of whom permitted him to have access and use of electronic credentials that were means of viewing and downloading personal, private, and intimate images of Plaintiffs and others similar to them. The recklessness and negligence and misconduct of the Regents, the University, and Keffer in these respects enabled Weiss to target female college athletes to obtain their private and sensitive information without authorization, including but not limited to Plaintiffs."

That is the fuse being lit.

This all has been an interesting exercise in nothingness thus far. If they are legally compelled to provide (truthful) information the rings of their hell have just been unlocked.

2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

Did he take three steps before that game-winner?
I think so yes, but it was cool and didn’t impact my team so play on.

Did Derik Queen travel? Evidence, experts split on Maryland's thrilling buzzer-beater vs. Colorado State

An investigative look at Queen's last-second shot, and whether it should have been called off, with input from CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore

Maryland freshman star Derik Queen saved the day Sunday for his team with a buzzer-beating bank shot from just outside the painted area to lift Maryland past Colorado State and into the Sweet 16 of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. But one of the key pieces of the Terps' "Crab Five" might have done some crab-walking to do it.

Queen gathered the inbounds play with 3.7 seconds remaining and went into attack mode from the top of the key. He took two dribbles, gathered and launched into the air off his right foot while fading left, hanging just long enough in mid-air to get a shot that smooched the glass and went in.

The shot fell, the horn sounded, and the game ended: Maryland 72, Colorado State 71.

If only it were that so simple. A closer inspection of the play reveals Queen may have traveled on the play as he attacked the basket. It was not called.

Current NCAA rules allow a gather and two steps. A slow motion view of a separate angle, posted by March Madness and slowed down by me, shows he clearly gathered and subsequently took three steps.

Justin Pippen to enter transfer portal: Son of Scottie Pippen looks elsewhere as Michigan makes Sweet 16 run

As the college basketball transfer portal heats up on Monday, a prominent name could be on the move

justin-pippen-getty.jpg

Michigan freshman guard Justin Pippen, the son of NBA Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame player Scottie Pippen, will enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Wolverines, 247Sports reported on Monday. The Wolverines just punched their ticket to the Sweet 16 with a 91-79 win over Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Pippen last appeared in Michigan's regular-season finale against Michigan State earlier this month, when he scored two points and had an assist in a 79-62 loss to the Spartans. Pippen played sparingly on the year and averaged 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 12 appearances. His best game came in a win against Purdue Fort Wayne in December, when he scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

scUM is basically the college football version of the sleazy TV pastor (Think Jim Bakker)

They claim to be holier than thou and make a big public spectacle trying to reinforce that, but in reality they are really the biggest dirtbags.

2026 NJ CB Jordan Thomas is a Buckeye!!!

Ohio State Buckeyes are the favorite to land a top defensive recruit who multiple major programs are chasing after

Ohio State Buckeyes are in pursuit of adding to their 2026 recruiting class and the five current commitments that they have.

The Buckeyes left a good impression on one of their key targets in the 2026 class this past week during his visit and it could pay off big in the end.

2026 four-star CB Jordan Thomas was on campus this past week and revealed that the Buckeyes stand in a terrific spot in his recruitment.

“Ohio State is a favorite for me in my recruitment at this time,” Thomas said via Eleven Warriors. “Getting to compete with like-minded individuals while also being developed in all aspects of life is what’s appealing to me about playing for the Buckeyes.”

Thomas is ranked as the No. 125 overall player in the class of 2026 and the No. 16 cornerback in the class, according to 247 Sports. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback attends Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey.

Ohio State hit big at cornerback last recruiting cycle by bringing in the top player at the position, Devin Sanchez. Two classes ago it was Aaron Scott Jr. and Bryce West as the top two cornerback recruits. All three of these players will join Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Davison Igbinosun on the depth chart for the Buckeyes.

So far for the class of 2026, the Buckeyes have one cornerback committed and that is in-state recruit, Jakob Weatherspoon. Ohio State will again take multiple at the cornerback position this go around.

OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Ohio State’s Devin Royal already has his eyes on a great addition for the Buckeyes if said player decides to enter the transfer portal

Ohio State is reportedly set to hit the transfer portal hard and they should. The Buckeyes have been connected to multiple players already, including Indiana G Gabe Cupps. However, things will pick up more this week as the portal is officially open as of today.

With Texas hiring Sean Miller away from Xavier, many eyes are on what happens with that roster in southern Ohio. Ohio State F Devin Royal has his eyes on one player and it makes a ton of sense if he decides to enter the portal.

Xavier’s Dailyn Swain would be a no-brainer for the Buckeyes if he enters the portal

Swain’s Instagram post from over the weekend was quickly filled with Xavier fans hoping he would stay and other fans hoping he would end up at the school they root for. Buckeye Nation quickly recognized that Royal commented on the picture and screenshots of it floated around X.

Ohio State offered Swain out of high school, where he was a four-star recruit. Swain ended up signing with Xavier and it was one that Ohio State should have never let get away. The 6-foot-8 small forward played in 29 games as a true freshman in 2023 where he averaged 4.3 points per game.

This past season is where Swain took his game to the next level. The talented sophomore averaged 11 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in 33 starts for Xavier. Swain scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting against Illinois in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

RB James Peoples (National Champion)

Likely Ohio State starter admits one thing he wants to be carried over from the National Championship team

img_0928.webp

Ohio State may be set to have a running back duo leading the way once again in 2025. James Peoples is the leading returner as a true sophomore, but Ohio State brought in West Virginia transfer RB CJ Donaldson Jr., who is going to see significant snaps. Last week, Peoples admitted he wants to see the touches split like they were last season.

“I would prefer that. (It will help) your body longevity and your lifespan in the league, so it’s a big help,” Peoples said recently. “I do see us doing that again. Ultimately, it’s up to Coach Lock (Locklyn). But I do feel like that’s what’s going to happen.”

2027 S Cooper Witten visited Ohio State this past week and the Buckeyes extended him an offer. Witten has been a player that Ohio State has had interest in for some time and they finally pulled the offer on the NFL legacy.

Hiw in the fuck could it not be. And I don't want to hear any bulshit from that jock sniffing weasel Ono that nobody kicked up the spreadsheet info to his office. Of course they did, and of they didn't he should still be whacked fir running the kind of place where he wasn't informed.
Recalling the Fab Five scam. Bo was still AD and worried more about the danger that scandal could present to his football program. So, if this scandal is echelons beyond the Fab Five and aimed at the athletic department and admin, could the penalties end this year's basketball success as well? Inquiring minds want to know.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Sources: Minnesota to hire Niko Medved as men's hoops coach

Minnesota is expected to hire Colorado State's Niko Medved as its next head coach, sources told ESPN.

Medved's season ended on Sunday night, as Colorado State lost at the buzzer to 4-seed Maryland in the second round of the NCAA tournament, 72-71. The Rams had won 11 straight games, including a Mountain West conference tournament championship and a first-round win over 5-seed Memphis in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

This will mark a return home for Medved, a Minneapolis native who attended the University of Minnesota and spent a year with the Gophers as an assistant coach in 2006-07.

Medved has led Colorado State to the NCAA tournament in three of the last four seasons, winning a game in each of the last two. They went 25-6 in 2021-22, earning a 6-seed in the NCAA tournament but losing to Michigan in the first round.

Last season, Colorado State earned a First Four berth, where it blew out Virginia, 67-42, before losing to Texas.

In seven seasons with the Rams, Medved went 143-85.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa hires Drake's Ben McCollum as men's basketball coach

n2s9otvst0bvu8erdegq

Iowa has hired Drake's Ben McCollum as its next men's basketball coach, the school announced Monday.

McCollum just finished his first season at Drake, leading the Bulldogs to a 31-4 record and the program's first appearance in the NCAA tournament's round of 32 since 1971. They won the Missouri Valley Conference's regular-season and tournament titles before beating 6-seed Missouri in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Drake lost to Texas Tech in the second round on Saturday.

McCollum won Missouri Valley Coach of the Year honors and was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year award.

McCollum, an Iowa City native, replaces Fran McCaffery, whom Iowa dismissed earlier this month after 15 seasons as the Hawkeyes' head coach. He was the school's all-time wins leader with 197 and led the program to seven NCAA tournament appearances.
