Agreed, this was the best possible hire for them, and he fits them with his play style. What will be interesting is how he can assemble talent by recruiting and the Portal. He consistently had classes in the 30s and 40s, and took a few years to properly utilize the Portal. I wonder if he leans on the Portal heavily like Cignetti, because at his age he may want to deal with players in their 20s rather than fight to get a 18yo and then have to develop. I think this hire was closer to being more for the reasoning of cleaning house and completely moving on from the Hairball era. This wasn't the big swing to compete for NCs every year
That's really what this all hinges on, do they clean house and let a very experienced coach run the program? Or is he going to
hate dealing with the people in AA who (at the very least) tolerated the scandals?
I'm hoping they have an epic collapse and Whittingham is doing color on ESPNU in 2027.

That’s what he does. He knows they’re a fucked up program.
That said. This is a home run for them. This makes it very interesting against us that’s for sure. This does the one thing we didn’t want to see which is it stabilizes them.
I was begging for them to get an offensive coach. Because they aren’t suited for that first of all player wise and there was going to be a transition that likely screwed them over.
Anyways this was what they should’ve done. His style and personality fits them that’s for sure. Issue for them now is he’s not used to this kind of world and he’s 66 years old trying to learn on the job.
We’ll see.

Portnoy shows how much of a clown he is more and more each day. As you said, the program and athletic department is tainted from the core. A coaching change isn't going to solve that, but if you're forced to get a new coach at least get one that stands a chance of winning.
Admittedly 2022 was a ugly win that OSU probably should have lost, but that say's almost as much about Wittingham than it did about OSU then.I don't get that 1-0 claim. He was a graduate assistant at BYU in 85-86 when they lost to Ohio State in a bowl game. He wasn't at Utah in 86, when they lost to Ohio State. Gave the Buckeyes a bit of a scare in 2022, but lost.
As for Ono, he's a politician. Not surprising that he lobbies Ellison for an appointment in Europe to escape possible legal action when the brooms come out at TCUN. It already is clear that they cheated, he knew it and he buried it by ensuring no written internal report or even notes, from what I read.
- First Meeting: 1986 Rose Bowl (Ohio State won 64-6).
- Second Meeting: 2022 Rose Bowl (Ohio State won 48-45).

Those are some great morals!
The Utes are actually 3-1 all time over TCUN
My friend got a ticket for Christmas and just isn't going lol. He didn't even try to sell it. It's got that bad.
And to make a play on your words, teams are not getting the talent up front. Meaning that they're not getting the full talent/ceiling of the player up front, but they are expected to guarantee a chunk of money to that unproven player. Not sure what could go wrongMade even worse by the fact you aren't going to get the talent up front if you don't (basically) guarantee the money.
It's one thing for a J Smith to get the most money and then everyone shuts up after the first practice. Its another thing to have a bust that you can't make take a hair cut. Prices will spiral and locker rooms will be a tricky, tricky thing.
Better for everyone once they get to full on employee status-->union--> CBA like other professional sports.
