DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

JT and Jack aren't as good as their HS rankings because of inadequate coaching. And as mentioned, it's not isolated to them. We've recruited tons of blue chippers and high-upside projects, yet none have developed into an elite DL since Chase. Who honestly believes we've just been recruiting busts? It's clearly a development/coaching problem
And as that begins to sink in with elite recruits, their parents and now their agents, they start looking elsewhere and the talent dries up. Does Chase Young come to Ohio State after watching the stagnation of JTT and Sawyer?

The first step in fixing a problem, is admitting you have a problem. Does Day think/agree he has a problem here?

End of last season was the perfect time to cut bait with Larry and there was a lot of discussion here about the possibility and who they should go after.

I think it will all depend on how the season wraps up. Of course maybe the choice won’t be Days to make.

CFP Playoff Committee justs makes s#!t up

I would prefer Boise because I'd like to see Jeanty go up against either the SEC or B1G runner up (unless it's us). Kid got 192 against Oregon. At the end of the day though, I would kind of like to see UNLV get in, but there's no way they ever let that happen ahead of an academy.

Assuming Army and Navy win this week and next, I'm going to bet that the committee puts them ahead of Boise using no losses as justification. If either or both have a decent loss to ND, they'll drop them just behind Boise. That way, they'll use the one beating the ranked other in an AAC championship game as the data point to jump them back in front of Boise. Boise (or maybe UNLV) are proper fucked. They need ND to absolutely curb stomp both academies, or they need both to pick up two losses.

Or maybe it’s that JT and Sawyer weren’t as good in college as their HS ranking. 5stars can dominate HS competition, but CFB history has countless former 5stars who had average to irrelevant college careers(remember Ronald Powell in ‘10 or DaShawn Hand in ‘14). It also Doesn’t help when defensive coaches refuse to rotate DL, causing massive fatigue by the 4th quarter.

HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Ryan Day likely needs an overhaul at the coaching spots on both OL and DL, preferably with younger talent that would chew nails and spit glass. But, that's what every team needs, those dudes don't grow on trees. Frye can't recruit. LJ can recruit his ass off but now, can't coach? Ouch.

Day is young and if his heart can take it, he'll be here long enough to win at least one title, could even be this year if the right heads get knocked around. The Secondary and LB are in good hands. The RB and WR are in outstanding hands. Fix the lines and lets fucking go already

Associate HC/DL Coach Larry Johnson Sr. (Official Thread)

I wasn't in the LJ camp when this hire was made.....as I'm sure this thread will attest. I 100% held a grudge because of non-football reasons. Namely, fuck Penn State. Also buried somewhere in this thread is my semi-apology which is really more of an "ok you can stay". Again, not because of football reasons, but sentimental reasons related to my dad passing. All that is to say I was never in the LJ is god camp, even during the Bosa and Chase Young years.

However, this article by @Ramzy is the first time I'm doubting the man as a football Xs and Os guy. Yes, there have been LOUD whispers about how him and Knowles don't mesh. I attributed them to our often whiney fanbase who thinks we should have 4 Chase Youngs at our disposal every year. But if Ramzy is saying it....I'm listening. Figure it out, Coach Day. Quickly.
Sigh, I think it's too late honestly. Until he leaves anyway. Do you actually think Day would fire LJ? Hell no he woudn't even fire Fleming! Chase Young was the worst thing that could have happened to Larry. He would have gone on by now but when the predator walks into your locker room and instantly raises every bar you have, you try to duplicate the feat in the next one, and the next one. It aint happening and even if it did, the Defense would still suffer because the other guys who need coached up just aren't getting it. Jack Sawyer could have been the next one but he took a year of bickering between coaches to even get the right position plans down. Then JT came in with all of this athleticism, kicked ass, then just went backwards.

LJ is a tremendous recruiter but what good is getting all of these great players if they peak before they put on the Scarlet and Gray?
