I thought someone posted here that Moore got some clause in his contract that says they can't fire him for anything related to what Stalions was doing. I'm not sure why they would agree to that, unless Moore has threatened to go public with what he knows.
Perhaps. Probably also what's keeping Yoko from throwing Manuel under the bus as his scapegoat.

For the catching situation, why isn't Fry being considered?

And don't give me this arm injury bullshit. Fry has played the field since the talks of his injury came out. So, he might not be able to throw out base stealers? Their base stealing threats are pretty much; Chisholm and Volpe. And we saw last night that the pitcher can take care of Chisholm.

Seems easy to me; start Fry for 6 or 7 innings, then sub in Hedges for defense late. Should Hedges' spot come up at the plate, pinch hit for him and then you still have Naylor.

Naylor has been just as bad as Hedges lately sadly. I know catcher's aren't usually known for offense but our catcher position is a beyond comical black hole.

That is the most alarming part of this series... the swings on pitches outside the zone.. especially the 3rd strike... Shows that nerves are peaked... and unless they can settle it down somehow, this is over

It's been like this off and on all season. Suddenly they will decided to start all stringing together good at bats, but then as suddenly as it came it turns off and they go back to hacking at anything thrown at them.

They basically got here because of a white hot first 2 months of the season. I think they went 54-50 after those first 2 months.

Michigan is in the unique position of being able to fire both president and head coach at bargain basement prices.

Vogt has somehow managed to get Hedges up there in seemingly every critical spot this series. Bold.

2024 Hedges is to Vogt as 2016 Michael Martinez was to Francona

Other than that, I think Vogt has done about as good of a job as he can with the decision-making. I think he's used the bullpen very well and strategically pulling the starter when you need to put out the fire. Though, it was probably very unsettling to pull Bibee so early and walking Soto to get to Judge seems odd when looked in a vacuum. However, getting to a force out situation with strikeout/double play candidates due up was the best call.

It seems that those tough/crazy plays have always went the other way. That coupled with pissing away score opportunities at the plate makes for a rough series. With 2 outs and runners in scoring position, they've hit .150 and (besides Fry's Detroit Game 4 homer) they have 3 RBI. Need to start figuring out how to hit when it matters and realize that there are more than 2 outs in an inning.

The one in Atlanta where OSU was a 6pt underdog against the #1 team in the country?
Yeah that's like the one game I honestly wouldn't hold against Knowles considering Georgia rolled out of bed a couple of weeks later and put 65 on the national runner up and probably couldn't dropped 80. I was honestly afraid what happened to TCU was going to happen to the Buckeyes lol.

Jeremiah Smith is now officially in the running for college football's hallmark award for receivers.
On Wednesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced its third in-season addition to the 2024 Biletnikoff Award watch list, placing Denzel Boston (Washington), Ja'Corey Brooks (Louisville), Omari Kelly (Middle Tennesee) and Smith among a class of almost 60 wide receivers, running backs and tight ends up for the honor.

Smith joins teammate Emeka Egbuka as a nominee for the Biletnikoff Award. This season, Smith leads the Buckeyes' wide receiver room with 32 catches for 553 yards and seven touchdowns. He also reached the end zone on a 19-yard rush in Ohio State's Week 5 win over Michigan State. Egbuka, a preseason nominee for the Biletnikoff, has 40 catches for 526 yards and six scores.
Egbuka and Smith look to follow in the footsteps of Marvin Harrison Jr. by becoming the second straight winner of the Biletnikoff Award from Ohio State. Harrison received the honor last season after collecting 67 receptions for 1,211 yards and 14 scores. Terry Glenn is Ohio State’s only other Biletnikoff winner, earning the award in 1995 after collecting 64 receptions for 1,411 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation will announce the semifinalists for the 2024 Biletnikoff Award on Nov. 18. The foundation will then announce the finalists on Nov. 26 and determine a winner on Dec. 12.

The game vs UGa was an example of our coaches getting everything they could get out of that team in that situation. OSU worked them all game but once MHJ got hurt, there was such a drop off in our potency.

This game wasn’t a disaster , but it was certainly not played like a team which is focused and dialed into a national championship run.

Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

What was your opinion of the crowd noise or did you have your hearing aides out?
Can’t hear you.

It was very loud, and impressive because although it was a new stadium record, it was only a little over 60K people. I’ve mentioned before that I saw the decibel meter show 127 in the final minute. I’m not sure if it got a little higher than that, cause I made sure I saw the snaps. (EDIT: it hit 129). Before the game they said they were hoping to break their stadium record of 127.something. It was the biggest win they’ve ever had in that stadium (they’ve never defeated an AP #1 team), and the game was close throughout with 7 lead changes, so the excitement level was high during the entire game.

It‘s tough to compare it to other stadiums for noise because where your seat is makes a difference. Comparing it to other West Coast stadiums, it was louder than Husky Stadium (U-Dub) in 2007 and louder than the Coliseum for USC‘s comfortable win in 2008. I haven’t been to the Rose Bowl for a regular season game, but for mixed bowl crowds it‘s not exceptionally loud, I think due to the shape of the bowl, and perhaps the laid-back LA vibe.

I was at Camp Randall when they returned the opening kickoff and went on to defeat the #1 Tressel/Pryor team in 2010, and remember it as a hornet’s nest. I’ve been to the Erector Set in State College, but the WhiteOut was calmed down by a 20-point Buckeye victory. Nebraska was loud for their biggest comeback in history when Braxton got hurt in 2011, and not so much when I was there the next time for a huge Buckeye win. I’ve been to Iowa and Sparty a couple of times each and they’re not as loud as Wiscy or unHappy Valley. Illinois, Minny, Purdue, Indiana, and NW’ern don’t get real loud. I still have to visit Rutgers and Maryland.

I was at DKR in Austin in 2006 and the end zone section wasn’t memorable for crowd noise. I think they were stunned that their defending champions could get beat at home. I’ve also been to the Giant Toilet Bowl Up North and it doesn’t come close to equaling the loudest stadiums.

I‘ve also been to postseason venues with domes in Indy, The Superdome, JerryWorld, and Glendale (AZ), and they didn’t get as loud as the noisiest B1G stadiums, probably due to the split crowds.

The Shoe was certainly raucous for The Game in 2006, the only time that’s been a #1 vs #2 matchup. My seat for that one was near the top of the stadium, so I probably didn’t experience as much noise as other spots would have.

But Autzen belongs in the top tier for crowd noise, with the Shoe, the Erector Set, and Camp Randall. I haven’t been to LSU, Bama, The Swamp, Neyland (Tenn), Kyle Field (aTm), Georgia, Fayetteville, or Jordan-Hare (Auburn) to compare those.

Edit - I was also at the VA Tech game in 2015, memorable for the ‘Enter Sandman’ pre-game ritual, and of course for Braxton Miller’s fantastic spin move at full speed in the open field. For noise I would rate them in the second tier like Iowa and Nebraska.

CFP Playoff Committee justs makes s#!t up

Interesting situation might be developing with who the G5 selection is. Say that Jeanty wins the Heisman and Boise runs the table. They'll be a one loss champ with a Heisman winner. However, I 100% believe that they'll get passed over for a one-loss Army or Navy that wins the AAC, but the Army-Navy game isn't until a week after the playoff field is announced. You could have Army as a 1-loss AAC champ getting the spot ahead of Boise and the Heisman winner and then picking up a second loss a week later in DC.

Ohio State gets called for a season-high eight penalties and loses to Oregon by one point.

The game that everyone anticipated all season has come and gone, and the No. 2 Buckeyes fell to the No. 3 Oregon Ducks 32-31 in Eugene.

The Buckeyes lost, and that is never fun. There are still things to be positive about and, of course, some criticism to dish out.

Here is who and what we are high and low on heading into the bye week...

Blue Chip

Uniform matchup

I love a good uniform matchup. Plus, Ohio State lost this game, so it is hard to find the true silver linings. Ohio State brought back the all-whites for this one and Oregon had the all-black. With the game being played on the West Coast, it went from light to dark and made the uniforms pop even more.

It isn’t important, but it still looked cool.

Solid Investments

12-team playoff

Ohio State lost a game, but every single goal they have is still right in front of them. That is a new feeling and a good feeling. With the 12-team playoff and no divisions, Ohio State can still win the conference, beat Michigan, make the playoff and win a national championship.

They need to clean some things up on the field, no doubt, but realistically, every goal the Buckeyes have is still attainable, and that is a good feeling.

Will Howard

I understand people who are out on Howard, and they are mad that he slid down a second too late. However, overall Will Howard showed that he can lead this team.

He was 28-for-35 for 326 yards and three total touchdowns. He made the right decisions and made almost every throw throughout the game. It can be true that he made a bad decision at the end of the game, but he played great in general and proved he could play at a high level in the biggest games.

Junk Bond

Defense

Howard and Ryan Day will take the brunt of the criticism for the loss, and there is plenty to go around, but the defense simply did not step up in this one. They had a chance to get one stop at the end of the game and win it, and they didn’t. In fact, in their last five games against ranked teams, they haven’t forced a punt in the fourth quarter. At all.

This isn’t good or championship-level. Something has to change with that unit.

Buy/Sell

Buy: The running game

The running game was nonexistent in the second half of this game. They ran 12 times for 19 yards. Josh Simmons was hurt in the second quarter, and that likely affected the game plan moving forward. However, the Buckeyes will need the running game to show up as we move forward this season.

Chip Kelly is still calling plays, and TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins are still incredibly talented. I don’t have concerns moving forward.

Buy: Denzel Burke moving forward

I am going to die on this hill, and I accept that. I still think Denzel Burke can be a CB1 for the Buckeyes. He had the worst possible game that he could have, but he has bounced back before, and I think he will do it again.

This surely won’t look like a horrible take come January, right?

Sell: Injuries

One of the things Ohio State had going for them was a clean injury report coming into this game. Now, they are without Simmons for (likely) the rest of the season, and Tegra Tshobola is banged up. Also, Jordan Burch did not play for Oregon.

Injuries suck. You always want to see players healthy, no matter who they are.

Sell: Losing big games

Ryan Day is 2-6 against top five teams in his career. I do think all of those things need context, and a lot of bad luck has been involved, but the record is the record — and it isn’t good.

Penn State will very likely be in the top-five in three weeks when they play Ohio State, so he will have a chance to go to 3-6. For now, it looks bleak for the Buckeyes when the talent is level.
