Scouting Report​

Tyson is a budding lead guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He has extreme length, with a massive 6-foot-9-plus wingspan, and terrific speed in the open floor. When he hits the gas, he’s capable of creating tempo like few other guards in the national class. Defensively, those long arms and quick feet give him a very high ceiling. He’s just now starting to buy into maximizing those tools on a consistent basis. He already has a high steal rate (2 per game in 3SSB play), good shot-blocking numbers for a guard, and the potential to be a game-changing on-ball defender.

Offensively, he’s undoubtedly at his best when the game is being played up and down. He’s tight with the ball when in attack mode, deceptively physical off the bounce, and capable of whipping quick passes off the dribble. He’s not quite as dynamic at this point when the game slows down. He’s become reliable taking care of the ball (4 assists vs. 1.3 turnovers), but has more wiggle than he does an explosive first step from a standstill. Similarly, he’s a solid vertical athlete in space, registering 9 dunks in 16 games, but rarely above the rim in traffic.

The biggest swing skill is his shooting. While he was just 31% from behind the arc and 60% from the free-throw line during the grassroots season, he’s still shown some gradual progress with his mechanics. He tends to lean back into his shot and generate most of his power from his arms, but his release is relatively clean with good rotation when he has room and rhythm. While he has some lift into his pull-up game, the key is not settling for too many tough ones.

Tyson has some extra intangibles as well. He’s visibly competitive, a good teammate, known for his high character and leadership ability. While he’s older for his grade, and will turn 18 in August before his senior year, there’s still a long runway to build up his body, get more consistent with his shooting, efficient offensively, and embrace his full potential on the defensive end of the floor.

The interior OL should be one of the better at OSU in quite some time. The struggles in that Indiana game were specifically at RG so I have no doubt we’ll be better this year than last year.

You add a better OL, with an experienced QB, the best football player in America, and returning RBs then there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be a top 5 offense.

Supposedly just scheduled to be at the Ball State, Oregon and €ichigan games.

Yeah, I always thought that the "struggles on short yardage downs" has been Ohio State's major problem the last few years. It was even bigger than missing field goals; hell, it they had made the first down on 3rd and short they wouldn't even be trying for a field goal. I don't know if the primary problem was play calling, blocking scheme, personnel, and/or execution. I do know that many times on short yardage the OL line didn't move anyone on the defense back and the runner was frequently hit by a defender before he even got to the line of scrimmage. Hopefully, any struggles on short yardage downs are a thing of the past.

Assuming Ian Moore is at least a solid starting LT this o line is going to be the best they've had in a while. Hopefully that means their ridiculous struggles on short yardage downs won't be an issue.

I'm from the Bay Area. People here truly do not care about college sports. Even when they randomly have Hall of Fame type QB's like Rodgers and Luck and good teams the interest barely moves

Hamilton West Side falls to Japan in LLWS third-place game | Recap​

Hamilton West Side's amazing World Series run was bookended by heartbreak.

Ohio fell to Japan, 3-2, in the Little League World Series Third-Place Game on Aug. 30. Ohio had pitched a shutout through five innings, but Japan put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The game ended as an Ayumu Hasegawa bunt turned into a walk-off single.

Hamilton's ace pitcher Boone Treadway had five dominant innings against Japan. He pitched 5.1 shutout innings, striking out five before hitting the pitch limit. Offensively, Hamilton took control of the game first. Though Japan held West Side scoreless for three innings, the dam broke in the fourth. Xander Kinkade delivered a well-placed ball in right field for a two RBI double, scoring both Josiah Infante and Bob Frazier.

Japan's bats came alive in the final frame. The International runners-up had only recorded three hits in the first five innings, but secured four in the bottom of the sixth to win the game.

West Side's long journey began over a month prior at the Ohio state tournament. Hamilton won its record 26th state title on July 24th, defeating Canfield 4-3. The champions of Ohio then steamrolled through the Great Lakes Regional Tournament, winning the tournament on Aug. 12 after racking up a 38-8 margin of victory in four games. The championship granted West Side its sixth trip to the Little League World Series, a world record.

Yeah. No idea why but it does seem like they don’t ever get the chance to just be a no name backup.

My only guess is that NFL teams take these gambles on the tools and when it’s clear it won’t work, they rather have polished mid as a backup so there is no learning curve and no pressure on the #1 ?

Who knows? I have long since stopped trying to think along with NFL GMs.

Agreed.... it does seem like that. It also seems like first round busts float around as starters for a few seasons, then kind of disappear, even though their best utility would be a no name back up. I guess they already got theirs but still kind of a bust.
