Probably just me, but watching our DL play, see more straight ahead rushing than twists/stunts/whatever. So not certain if LJsr teaches said DL play, but certainly our OL hasn't seen much, or they'd recognize opponents DL schemes, and adjust. Sometimes the OL simply gets outrushed. Their 5* guy looked like he just tossed/slid by the LOT and knocked Sayin down. We've got some talented guys, not elite, but very serviceable. But yeah, tOSU needs better.

As a CEO, he can spread his time across the team. And if anyone believes the ST coach tells Day to punt at a 4th and one situation, I've got some counseling time for you. Anyone know if the starters still clamor to play on ST? Used to be a thing, but today, not so certain. Believe it's more of a time for the 2's to get sweaty and dirty, and show off their talents. As for the running into a kicker penalty, a novice knows you lay out in front of the punter, simply because that's where the ball is. Probably more coaching technique than I am aware of, but always seems to be laid at the feet of the players to perform.

Having lived for 50 years in Cali, which meant a 9:00am kick-off, found that a 4:30 start time (MD) was tedious. Couldn't really concentrate on anything of value, as was playing game in my head. So I'll take a nooner. Popcorn and beverage of choice makes more sense then, and after game, still have daylight for chores. Plus wifey makes some killer nachos supreme, more suited for lunch than breakfast.....Go Bucks!

Do remember the old days, when tOSU always drew NW, the week before Xichigan. Now, appears that tOSU draws a run of three games that are all rock crushers. So much for the random number generator being impartial (to make the schedule). After watching, can see why the 1's are 1's, and the others when they come in are not. But must say, MD made some of our 1's appear to be not.

Maybe they read what the newsies write? Watch the point spread? Listen to the news? Could be all of the above, or none of the above. Probably not alot of anticipation, except maybe the 2's, 3's or 4's of getting some PT. A thought, maybe the coaches level of intensity.

I didn't really mean devalue as much as value more. I think this year, now that he is a manager, he seems more interested in what is happening with STs.

Oh, I strongly disagree about Fleming. We all saw what it looked like, and even if the statistics on the kicks looked ok, everything around it did not. The bigger gripe was wasting a coaching position on special teams. Now that doesn't matter.

I won't comment on the run game because Day usually gets that figured out each year as it goes along. It's just always a work in progress. The running back room also has not been consistently talented, which has played a big factor.

I feel like this year Day is making an effort to right the ship. It's not just coach speak.

I will interject.

Day is a awesome head coach. He will go down as probably the winningest head coach in OSU history if he sticks it out a while. If he wins a couple more championships he will pass Woody as far a legends.

With that said, special teams has been the one black mark on his tenure so far.

I think he values the play of offense and defense way more than special teams.

Compare that to Tressel and Urban who treated the special teams like a God, and it showed. They definitely had faults of their own, but not special teams.

This season Day is definitely trying to get the special teams corrected, it's just kind of wonky. OSU spent money in the portal for special teams players. I wish they would spend a little more for better high school kickers.

Any black marks right now, that falls on Disher. He is getting paid a lot and needs to find answers.

It was ok. They played a little good and a little bad, just like the offense and defense.

They will be fired up for IU next Saturday.

Oklahoma just used the common sense used by any coach not named Day, positioning the ball so it's not at a difficult angle for the kicker. One could argue it was the right call to go for the TD on 3rd down against texas, but just the made field goal would have put the game out of reach. And our kicker was 3 for 3 that game before that last attempt.

It's inexcusable to me, especially since he was the coach when Ruggles' kick went wide left from that same angle and distance against UGA. Every other football coach on the planet positions the ball at an angle that's favorable to the kicker for crucial late-game field goal attempts.
