what would the SEC lose by moving away from the NCAA? how has the NCAA helped them, other than to try and institute rules to maintain fairness and parity. and it seems to me that fairness and parity aren't really what the SEC is all about, at least in the last 2 decades.

this is also what i vaguely remember... something between 4th to 6th, hence his choice to come play for ryan day to improve his draft stock up to something perhaps in 3rd to 4th round.

and that's why, thinking back on it, that he went in the 6th after all of that seemed odd.

don't get me wrong... he was an integral part of getting us the natty, but i'm not sure how much it helped him in the end when it came to his nfl prospects.

The fact that Brett McMurphy is sending the message along doesn't say much for Brett McMurphy. And I didn't think much of him, before this.
But I'll bite. Let's see how other people did against your opponents. I'll agree it isn't the same, but it's a start.

Western Kentucky - W - Western Kentucky went 8-4 before losing in their conference championship game and then the bowl game. And any team I look at on the schedule, if I say, "Is that a real team?" They lost to that team. So, 0 points for Alabama for this win.

South Florida - W - South Florida went 6-6. No real impressive wins. So, 0 points for Alabama.

Wisconsin - W - Usually one of the better teams in the Big Ten, they went 5-7. Sure, they lost to some good teams: Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, but they also lost to Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa. No real noticeable wins. 0 points.

Georgia - W - This one is impressive. Georgia only lost to Alabama and Notre Dame, and... somehow, Ole Miss. So, okay, 1 point.

Vanderbilt - L - I thought Vandy beat someone else. But I don't see it. Can I take a point away from Alabama for this one? I think I will.

South Carolina - W - I'll give them a point. South Carolina only lost to 3 teams in the regular season, and all were better than them. Maybe a half point? Meh - I'll go with full points. 1 point.

Tennessee - L - Tennessee only lost to Georgia and Arkansas. I'll say they get a point.

Missouri - W - Missouri only lost to 3 other teams - all better than Missouri. 1 point.

LSU - W - LSU also lost to Florida. LSU wasn't a dumpster fire, but not amazing. 1 point.

Mercer - W - Mercer?? You get no points for chicken shit Saturday games. Get out of here.

Oklahoma - L - You couldn't get a touchdown against Oklahoma, who couldn't get a touchdown against Texas. I'm taking another point away.

Auburn - W - 0 points for this. Alabama was better and so was half of the teams in the P4 conferences.

They got a total of 3 points. If other people had played your schedule, they're going to have a tough time getting out of Georgia with a win, and many would have trouble getting through Tennessee, Missouri, LSU with 2 wins. But I think most of the Top 10 is coming out at 10-2, 9-3 at worst (with a win over Vandy).

Ohio State football team could face an SEC team every year if one coach gets his way​

One SEC coach is proposing that the league play a Big Ten team in a non-conference game every year.

The Ohio State football program does a pretty good job of scheduling at least one premier non-conference game a season. Last year was one of the few seasons in which that didn't happen, but they make up for that in 2025 with Texas coming to play the Buckeyes in the Shoe.

Other Big Ten teams don't take the same approach to scheduling, which is disappointing. Texas has taken that approach now that they are in the SEC, which is nice to see. They will play Michigan and Ohio State in back-to-back seasons in regular-season games.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly wants to see this happen more often. In fact, he wants the Big Ten and SEC to have games every single season. He is proposing that the SEC move to a nine-game conference schedule and that the Big Ten and SEC schedule one non-conference game against each other.

A lot of SEC schools get criticized for their weak non-conference schedules year after year. It's refreshing that Kelly is looking to improve that by adding a Big Ten team to the schedule every single season. The Ohio State Buckeyes certainly have no issue playing SEC schools.

Ohio State is scheduled to play Texas, Georgia, and Alabama in home-and-homes in the next six years. They are clearly not afraid of these premier matchups, as they know it will help them prepare for Big Ten Conference games, as well as College Football Playoff games.

Without knowing details of it, I’d think conference tv revenue contracts are the tie that binds in that scenario.

No such thing as loyalty in my experience. It’s about power and self interest at the organizational level (individual level too for that matter)

Well they have shown that they aren’t cooperative so far. Wouldn’t be the first time a contract was broken or went to litigation, especially in current times.

I do see the NCAA going away in the not so distant future unless they can find a way to make themselves more relevant in the modern CFB era we have entered. They haven’t been useful in the NIL rules definitions.

The thought of the BIG and the SEC breaking away in the future is not so far fetched.
