2028 RB Jayshawn Mitchell and Xander Edwards

After missing out on top target David Gabriel Georges in the 2027 class, Carlos Locklyn is looking for a second running back to pair with longtime commit Elijah Newman-Hall in the 2028 class. Two of his top targets to fill that spot will be in Columbus this weekend.

Mitchell is ranked as the No. 8 RB and No. 113 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2028 class, while Edwards is ranked just behind him as the No. 9 RB and 116th overall.

Mitchell, a native of San Antonio, Texas, is ranked as the No. 1 running back in the class by Rivals and looks to be a top-of-the-board target for Locklyn. Edwards, the son of former NFL and Notre Dame fullback and 1992 Ohio Mr. Football Marc Edwards, is a former teammate of Ohio State freshman safety Simeon Caldwell at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, where Edwards ran for a mind-boggling 2,629 yards and 44 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2025.

Per Tom Loy, Ohio State is now a serious threat to land Keaton Fields, Jamarcus Johnson and Jayshawn Mitchell after their visits last weekend.
Just the latest elite recruits Ohio State has made a huge move with along with Lincoln Fa’alafi.

And Jayshawn Mitchell is already referring to Michigan as TTUN per Lettermen Row.
