The irony is that if a teacher wants the position/stipend, they are given preference over any 'walk-on' coach (non-teacher). Sometimes, they are discouraged from taking. With his BA, extra-base hits, seems reasonable that they'd find a spot for him in the line-up. All the HS coaching positions are that of being a teacher to these kids, and JVs are especially for getting experience and showing them how to do it. Feel for ya, and believe it or not, the varsity coaches have little or no impact on how the JV does things. Being a helicopter parent myself, I might corner a varsity coach, and lay out your case. Probably PO the JV coach when he finds out, so that's the risk. They can always call up your kid to varsity and teach him, give him a chance. Good luck with this, and keep this group informed.....
