Sounds like Noel will be back soon. I do think he can still help this team, although it may be more matchup-dependent. Obviously he was able to make a huge impact in the win @ Northwestern as a small-ball post, and he could still provide that element moving forward. Certainly on defense, OSU has had some games like @ Iowa & @ Washington where they struggled to guard big, agile forwards & I would hope he'd provide some help there as well. It's good to hear something more promising about his return.

Rod Barnes, who was Cal-State Bakersfield's coach & hired Mays, previously was head coach at Ole Miss many years ago, and coached against the Buckeyes at the Puerto Rico tip-off which was sort of the coming out party for the 1999 Buckeyes team that made the Final Four.

Cal-State Bakersfield had a pimp on the coaching staff. Literally. They paid this guy Mays (a former player there 10 years ago) $3,000 per month to assist, and he was pimping a girl on the side everywhere from California to Vegas to Oregon and Washington. Mays has since been arrested and as part of a search police found he had hundreds of images of child porn including some as young as 4(!).

So they tried, but obviously they failed. While they made some effort, I think it looks like they waited too long to do it. It appears many of the teams they emailed cold did not need a guarantee game, and in fact several of them responded and indicated that they did not have scheduling vacancies (OSU is in that group). Pitt maybe made the worst choice, saying they needed a game and choosing Hofstra (who they lost to).
