He isn't that much older than Cignetti, the difference is perception. Scum fans will treat this as a bridge hire, and also rewrite Whittingham's well tenured history. He has been a good but not great coach. Cignetti may coach another 7 years. People aren't saying that about Whittingham. He is good, not great

He is also good enough to pull off a win against OSU, and also lose to a mid level B1G program. That is what he was at Utah. Every year.

If people think there will be some sort of professional level up and he will rewrite what he was, they are going to be disappointed.

I've seen somewhere that it was mentioned that Hartline can get Noland, Rogers and Rodgers at USF as a base to his offense. And it makes sense. I don't want to include his name, but I'm sure there's also an OSU RB who could also hit the Portal. I would've be surprised if he was rumored to be their RB

Thanks for positing this was great.

Their DL is holistically better than ours I think. I love our crew but they absolutely don’t generate pressure like that. They held their own against UT and IU, but that front is on another planet.

I really hope Day is working with Sayin on a lot of intermediate stuff because that ball needs to get the fuck out of there. That’s one of the best overall units in the country regardless of position and can take over games.

Hopefully Jackson can get some tough yards.

I think Sayin can pick them apart with quick out routes, slants, seams and screens. I can see the TEs being a factor to attack the middle of the field, because I can see blitzing LBs to try and keep pressure on Sayin. I think screens can neutralize Bain and Mesidor as once they collapse down on Sayin, the below is thrown behind them and forces the DBs and LBs to tackle in space.

Yeah, I'm not all that bright and I predicted this would happen at the onset of NIL.. As fun as it is for fans and boosters to say why don't they just overbid for a HS player. You're affecting the ecosystem of the locker room when the player currently on the roster finds out about the new incoming freshman making MUCH more than him. Yet he just put his blood, sweat and tears on the field for the team the previous season. I'm sure some delicate conversations are had, but I don't see sustained success for teams constantly touting over paying for every incoming freshman. I think this is where a program like OSU can have continued success, though they will lose on some very highly rated players, they can arrange more complete teams.

we had to know with all that billionaire money that they would eventually find a decent hire. Frankly, my initial thought was he is a great hire. But once I saw he was 66 years old that changes my opinion some. 3 years...5 max.

We will see how Wittingham adjusts to playing more consistently against higher level competition and the pressure of higher expectations that he's never really had at Utah. I think the floor is probably higher with him than Brohm or Monken but the ceiling remains unmoved (9-3ish type team who can win 10 games every so often when the stats align right but never really a true national contender)

I would have preferred that they had not landed on their feet with a proven solid coach who prefers a physical style of play. I don’t see him making them elite, but they won’t crater, will be a moderate to fairly serious threat, and will surely get the benefit of the doubt that they’ve cleaned everything up from the media. Hopefully, he doesn’t have the energy to be an elite recruiter. It would help a lot if they make the mistake of going away from the NFL-level DC’s they’ve had.

A trained monkey coulda coached scUM to 9 wins this year with the cake walk conference schedule they were handed. I don't think there's a coach who goes better than 9-3 with them this year and you'd be really hard pressed to find someone so incompetent that they finished worse.
