This scUM team is currently not nearly as good as their ranking. Needed another mediocre at best power conference team to fall apart down the stretch to win last night against TCU. TCU had lost their season opener to New Orleans (166th in Kenpom)
They're definitely riding the coattails of last season's team, but without Danny Wolf and Vlad Goldin, who were terrific. I don't think Lendeborg and Johnson are quite as good as the two bigs they had last year.
On the UCLA 3rd down, the one that didn't count, on UCLA's second drive (because it wasn't their first 3rd down that didn't count), Wilmer got up and and gave a 1st-down signal with his arm after the catch even though he was several yards short. So I thought that made an already weird play (non-play?) even weirder.
