HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

We're not getting rid of Day mid-season. His gig depends on what he does against psu, scum, mighty ducks II, and how we do in the playoff. Beat the Joepas, Vulverines, and ducks and we're back to even. Run the table in the playoff and he's Kirby Smart. If he doesn't, it's over. Either way, it's a little early for the torches and pitchforks.
This is how I see it as well.

HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

And a lot of the reasons given are tied to not winning big games. I get that. Really, I do.

But there’s some pretty good examples, I’m sure we can all cite, of coaches who recently won a bunch of games and did so in ways that I don’t think that we want for our program / alma mater.

So, there’s the obvious at tcun.

Would you want Smart up here? Not exactly a tight ship.

DeBour? Thanks… no.

Sark? Hell, I’d drink tequila with him… but not sure I want him as the HC.

Lane? Is he still married? If not, hide your wife, hide your kids.

Others? Serous question… I’m not as well versed at the HC options that may / may not exist.

I think that we’ve already established that tOSU should not be a place where a HC cuts his teeth, no? So, in a lot of ways, this needs to be a name we all know.

All I know is that I’ll take a program that puts guys in the league, stays out of trouble, has a solid APR, generates a ton of $$ for the athletic department, is a perpetual top-5 program at the precipice every year… and a NC every decade over a program that wins 2 NCs a decade and has Issues off the field, doesn’t do anything for the kids educations, etc.

It’s a real dilemma. That said, I think we all know that tOSU admin is considering the holistic position of HC over just winning. Only care about winning and we become what we saw at tcun for the last three years. None of us want that.

I won’t take my flags down because we lost a game here or there. I will stop hanging flags if we went dirty to win.

*2024 tCun Shenanigans, Arguments, Cobras, Feckless Marmots, Fake Pandas, Dirty Cheaters

I think of all fanbases that ours would know better than to judge a team by how they perform against Purdue.

Imagine being told any time the last 20 years that Michigan coming off a National Championship season would only be only 3 point favorites at Illinois.

Bielema is turning Illinois into a respectable team, which is something that should be near impossible to do.

I think Bielema will out-coach Moore and knock Michigan out of the Top 25 where they belong.

DC Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Is there any justification/validation to the consideration that Knowles and Johnson are not aligned, and therefore, Jim is hand-cuffed/limited in the schemes that he would like to play? It's been stated consistently over time by The Podcast personnel.

FTR, I'm not excusing the poor defensive play as it rears its head. I'm simply wondering if there might be some different causation within it.

I’ve been so hesitant to call for a head. If I’m in a forced choice situation here, I’m asking for LJ’s. Too much talent on the DL to have it play like that. Especially the DEs.

You know it’s worse when no one can give a name of a candidate that would be a better replacement.

Game Thread #2 tOSU at #3 Oregon, Sat. Oct. 12, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

Regarding the helmet communication to the QB, I’m not sure where that’s coming from, but I know in the final 2 minutes they needed to know ahead of time that they couldn’t rely on the QB hearing anything with the noise in that stadium. I mentioned before that I saw the decibel meter listed at 127 on the scoreboard during those final few plays.

I’m not sure communication was much of an issue until the final 10 seconds. Oregon defended the out route by Smith well (pretty sure Muhammad knocked it away), and then there were 6 seconds left and a timeout. I wanted a slant run that could have gained 8 to 10 yards in about 4 seconds, with the receiver going down immediately (near the middle of the field) and getting a timeout that might have allowed a 45-to-47 FG attempt. When Howard took off I knew the clock would run out, but it was probably impossible to tell Howard that stuff through the helmet after the incomplete pass, without using the timeout which needed to be kept in the hope of using it with 1 second left.

I agree with those who have stated that Day should have used a timeout rather than letting the clock run down to 2 minutes.

But the biggest factor in that drive not getting points was the OPI call. Despite getting sacked on the first play, the Buckeyes were at the 28 with more than 25 seconds and a timeout left. That should have allowed them to run 3 plays to try to put the ball between the 10-and-15 yard line, get it to the middle of the field, and either spike the ball after a first down or use the timeout.

I’ve also never understood why OPI is a 15-yard penalty, like a personal foul. If it was treated the same as the receiver running out of bounds and coming back in before a catch, which is essentially like an incomplete pass, the chances with 2nd and 10 from the 28 with 20 seconds and a timeout would have still been pretty good.
Did they ever call OPI in any of the games you watched before forward passes were legal?
