Superior in talent, but inferior in execution/preparation. IU doubled their seam routes and Corn had nowhere else to go. We will just play it straight like usual. We don’t believe in tendencies apparently.
I‘m right with you on the outcome.
We'll see...
Oregon broke every tendency they'd shown on offense, so I don't totally agree with the lack of preparation thing. Lack of adjustments perhaps, but there was a clear gameplan. Oregon wasn't exactly trash to begin with either. Plus, two weeks of hearing everyone whine, bitch, moan and complain in the crucible that is Columbus matters too.
I don't think Nebraska has the talent to do any of what Oregon was able to do. They barely do well what they do regularly and to then try to break tendencies and venture into the unknown, I think it's beyond them. Oregon had, at least, a veteran QB. Nebraska doesn't have that. Oregon had good receivers too (1 of them got himself kicked out the game for being an idiot), and Nebraska has no one on the outside that would be anything more than a rotational receiver at Oregon. Nebraska still looks a lot like the team that struggled to score last year at the moment.
Nebraska's defense is a joke, lacks athleticism and playmakers, doesn't pursue or flow to the ball well and on top of that, is very bad at run fits with the linebackers. It shouldn't be particularly close unless the line isn't functional without Simmons (which would surprise me). Even if the line struggles, Nebraska has no one who can cover any of the top-7 receivers Ohio State can trot out there.
For whatever its worth, I'm more interested in seeing what the offensive line will look like without Simmons. I really hope Zen is ready, that's the type of kid you cheer for when he gets his shot. I think the defense will be fine ultimately and I think (I hope) we will see a more unified defensive game set where there is one voice calling the shots instead of 2, like what happened at Oregon.
