We Don't Deserve Dogs

We're getting to the end on our fox terrier. He has some heart disease at age 16 really good overall quality of life still so nothing to do proactively but I see moments where he's a little short of breath and I feel his heart beat flutter on my lap. Other times he's just fine. Its hard to get to this part but I want to be as good of an owner as he's been a companion.

Back in the old days if you lived on the west coast and the game was being played on the east coast you had to settle for listening to the game on the radio because the local channels wouldn't pre empt scheduled programing for a baseball game. Up until the 80's I listened to most all star games on the radio. The first I remember watching on TV was the 1984 all star game in SF when Huey Lewis and the New sand the national anthem.

We don't deserve dogs. Tomorrow is going to be a hard day for me, and it'll be even harder for my son Matthew, and my daughter, Ella.

They grew up with Sophie. Ella was 9 and Matthew was 7 when we got her. She's been there when things have been great, when things have been rough, when my mother unexpectedly passed away. Through COVID and divorces and injuries and stress and everything.

Total love. That's what a dog is....and that's all she ever wanted.

Tomorrow is going to be a hard day.

In terms of just one year salary? Almost certainly yes but I don't know what JS is making.

For perspective, 2nd round guys are making $1.4-$2.4MM for the first year of their contract in 2026.

He's probably already made the equivalent of a NFL 2nd round draft pick in the 3rd year of a 4 year contract. Maybe a lot more, I just have no idea of what he (reportedly) makes.

What Are Your Hobbies?

As always, merge this if it is a duplicate thread. I searched and couldn’t find one, which amazes me.

Next, I figured since I have picked up a new hobby it was time to find out what hobbies other BPers have.

The new hobby for me is tennis. All I know is old people continue to play it, they make it look easy and I am not going to be dominating the circuit anytime soon. It sure does burn the calories though.

Now, let’s see if this thread can stay on the rails:-)

Back in the day when I followed baseball more closely I used to follow stats. You almost never saw teams with BAs below .250 nor team ERAs over 4. I did some looking today. ERAs are WAY uo compared to say 30 years ago so you'd think BAs would be through the roof but their not. The best hitting teams have a team BA of around .260 with most teams being below .250. I can't believe either the amount of players that are regulars batting around the Mendoza line. Home runs and strikeouts are way up and stolen bases way down. Stealing bases has become a lost art. Back seat "fixers". Whenever my wife asks me to do some little project for her she's always right behind me telling me how to do every little thing. I just programmed new garage door openers. She asked me to help her but was butting in every two seconds to tell me what to do. She insisted that I had to remove the cover from the wall mounted opener when it was obviously wrong.
