Game Thread #1 Texas at #2/#3 tOSU, Sat. Aug. 30th, 12pm ET, FOX

Blah blah blah...

So now when someone expresses a belief in something that I think we have no reason to expect, I have to remember... This is Ohio State. Maybe they can.

...Blah continued.
You've convinced me.

Mountain West Conference (official thread)

Boise State, Colorado State, Utah State sue Mountain West

Three departing members of the Mountain West Conference are suing the league, alleging it improperly withheld millions of dollars and misled them about a plan to accelerate Grand Canyon's membership.

Boise State, Colorado State and Utah State filed an updated lawsuit in the District Court of Denver arguing the conference and Commissioner Gloria Nevarez willfully disregarded the league's bylaws by "intentionally and fraudulently" depriving the schools of their membership rights.

The three outgoing schools argue the Mountain West's exit fees, which could range from $19 million to $38 million, are unlawful and not enforceable. The lawsuit also claims the Mountain West concealed a plan to move up Grand Canyon University's membership a year to 2025-26 without informing the departing schools.

The Mountain West is also seeking $55 million in "poaching fees" from the Pac-12 for the loss of five schools, including San Diego State and Fresno State starting in 2026. The two sides are headed back to court after mediation that expired last month failed to reach a resolution.

QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, New York Jets)

I found this article interesting. It doesn't mention Fields, but I suspect that he would score poorly on Payton's evaluation criteria: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45869555/how-bo-nix-aced-sean-payton-qb-test

That article speaks to something I put great weight in - QB accredited sacks.

Jimbo Fisher (ex-HC Texas A&M Aggies)

Jimbo Fisher has 'a lot to give,' eyes college coaching return

"I'm 59, in great shape and healthy. I've had success everywhere we've ever been," Fisher said. "The end at Texas A&M, it's unfortunate, but we also had the highest-ranked team they ever had there in 2020. Our quarterbacks got hurt. We played with first-team, third-team. ... It was hard to get play calling and guys around. ... Didn't pan out like we needed to, but I still love it."

"Being able to [coach], I would," Fisher told the podcast. "I've won 72% of my games, won 80% of my playoff games. I've been fortunate to win a national championship as a head coach and assistant. I miss the relationships with players. I would be very interested in still doing it. I still think I've got a lot to give. I'd like to get back out there."

Just sayin': I can't see him accepting a job at a "small time" school and/or them wanting to pay him what he would want. I don't think any successful "big time" school would want him either (i.e. he does have some "baggage*").

Dallas Cowboys (Official Thread)

Referee explains sideline collision with Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb: 'It's more of a rare situation'

Lamb absorbed one of the biggest hits of the game despite not being in uniform against the Los Angeles Rams

However, Lamb still ended up being on the receiving end of one of the most violent hits of the night despite being in a hat, t-shirt and sweatpants on the sideline. He ended up being penalized for "a foul against an official" that officially went down as an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty while watching Dallas' offense. Lamb began to celebrate Cowboys wide receiver Jonathan Mingo breaking wide open and beyond the Rams' secondary defenders. Lamb's celebration led him to the thickly-painted, white portion of the sideline where Lamb put his hand up and turned his back to everyone but Mingo flying downfield. An official was sprinting down the thick white portion of the sideline to keep up with the play, and he was so locked in on the action that he didn't notice Lamb until it was too late. Both of them went flying when the official smacked into Lamb's back on the tail end of the sequence.

"It's sideline interference. CeeDee Lamb was standing in the restricted white border area, which is our area to officiate the game. The official on the play was focused solely on doing his job, and he ran into CeeDee Lamb, who was standing in that restricted area," referee Alex Moore said postgame via a pool report. "That's what happened. And with that contact, it's an automatic foul."

Neither Schottenheimer nor Lamb argued the call, so all parties were able to move forward conflict free.

Buckeye Nation

Login to view embedded media I hear what he’s saying, but he’s forgetting some points. Yes, OSU fans look at winning the Natty as being a big deal. But OSU has lost to scUM 4 straight years, so we will not forget that. No matter how many years down the road it goes. Alabama hadn’t lost to Auburn 4 straight years, so of course that loss didn’t mean as much when they won in the NC. If OSU was even 2-2 the last 4yrs, I don’t think OSU fans would have looked at the loss in 2024 in the same way. It also doesn’t help that most of us won’t forget that the team was 21+pt favorites as well. Don’t get me wrong, the Natty will never be forgotten, but there is still massive pressure on Day even with the Natty because he NEEDS to beat scUM. Sabah owned Auburn, outside a phenomenal Cam Newton year and the special teams blunder, they dominated Auburn. Day has an NC but hasn’t beaten his biggest rival, that isn’t and won’t be lost on OSU fans
