UNLV Rebels (Official Thread)

This is a great idea, but it needs to also be extended to the coaches as well. This is rich coming from a guy who I believe left a program before his contract was up to pursue another position.

Just like the real world, it's up to you to make a place they don't want to leave.

The coaches, by and large, are really not impressing me in this new era. They seem to want to return to the days of indentured servitude from the players so the coaches can get rich...err I mean they seem to really care about the condition of the sport. Yeah. That's the ticket, for the good of the sport.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

what would the SEC lose by moving away from the NCAA? how has the NCAA helped them, other than to try and institute rules to maintain fairness and parity. and it seems to me that fairness and parity aren't really what the SEC is all about, at least in the last 2 decades.

Just thinking from a tv contract perspective.

SEC alone vs B1G and the rest of the current NCAA.

SEC goes first and the B1G gets to play the middle on both them and the NCAA/rest of CFB.

I think the big breakaway/death of the NCAA is very near but it will likely be the B1G and the SEC together.

QB1 Will Howard (National Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers)

The one year of cfb salary is surely a good benefit if his NFL career isn't substantial. And I think playing another year of games under Day and Kelly should give him a better chance of having a substantial NFL career. And I hate to say it but getting drafted late by a well-run team like Pittsburgh is probably better than having a shit team take you in an earlier round a year ago.
all good points that i agree with. he certainly didn’t hurt himself by playing at the college level for another year.

i guess i was just stuck on the increasing his draft ranking angle.

this is also what i vaguely remember... something between 4th to 6th, hence his choice to come play for ryan day to improve his draft stock up to something perhaps in 3rd to 4th round.

and that's why, thinking back on it, that he went in the 6th after all of that seemed odd.

don't get me wrong... he was an integral part of getting us the natty, but i'm not sure how much it helped him in the end when it came to his nfl prospects.

SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

The fact that Brett McMurphy is sending the message along doesn't say much for Brett McMurphy. And I didn't think much of him, before this.
But I'll bite. Let's see how other people did against your opponents. I'll agree it isn't the same, but it's a start.

Western Kentucky - W - Western Kentucky went 8-4 before losing in their conference championship game and then the bowl game. And any team I look at on the schedule, if I say, "Is that a real team?" They lost to that team. So, 0 points for Alabama for this win.

South Florida - W - South Florida went 6-6. No real impressive wins. So, 0 points for Alabama.

Wisconsin - W - Usually one of the better teams in the Big Ten, they went 5-7. Sure, they lost to some good teams: Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, but they also lost to Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa. No real noticeable wins. 0 points.

Georgia - W - This one is impressive. Georgia only lost to Alabama and Notre Dame, and... somehow, Ole Miss. So, okay, 1 point.

Vanderbilt - L - I thought Vandy beat someone else. But I don't see it. Can I take a point away from Alabama for this one? I think I will.

South Carolina - W - I'll give them a point. South Carolina only lost to 3 teams in the regular season, and all were better than them. Maybe a half point? Meh - I'll go with full points. 1 point.

Tennessee - L - Tennessee only lost to Georgia and Arkansas. I'll say they get a point.

Missouri - W - Missouri only lost to 3 other teams - all better than Missouri. 1 point.

LSU - W - LSU also lost to Florida. LSU wasn't a dumpster fire, but not amazing. 1 point.

Mercer - W - Mercer?? You get no points for chicken shit Saturday games. Get out of here.

Oklahoma - L - You couldn't get a touchdown against Oklahoma, who couldn't get a touchdown against Texas. I'm taking another point away.

Auburn - W - 0 points for this. Alabama was better and so was half of the teams in the P4 conferences.

They got a total of 3 points. If other people had played your schedule, they're going to have a tough time getting out of Georgia with a win, and many would have trouble getting through Tennessee, Missouri, LSU with 2 wins. But I think most of the Top 10 is coming out at 10-2, 9-3 at worst (with a win over Vandy).
Wow

Thanks for going to all that effort

I may have lost the plot here… did you give them a point for losing to Tennessee?

If Bama lost to UGA and Missouri instead of Vanderbilt and Oklahoma I could maybe see the point.

But just screaming "BUT LOOK AT THEIR SCHEDULE WHAT WOULD THEIR RECORD BE WITH OURS!!!" which is basically trying to excuse your own failures losing to 2 teams that finished with at least 6 losses, get outta here with that.

2026 TX OL Drew Evers (SMU Verbal)

2026 OL Drew Evers includes the Buckeyes in his top six schools

Ohio State is firmly in the mix for four-star interior offensive lineman Drew Evers from Flower Mound (TX). The Buckeyes are joined in his top six by Penn State, SMU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU.

Evers is ranked as the No. 13 interior offensive lineman and the No. 208 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also ranks as the No. 27 player in the state of Texas. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect holds nearly 40 offers.

Ohio State is set to host Evers for an official visit on June 6, and he will visit Penn State the following weekend. Offensive line coach Tyler Bowen is making a strong push to land Evers as part of the Buckeyes’ 2026 class. Ohio State is off to a strong class with the offensive line led by in-state recruits Maxwell Riley and Sam Greer.

It’s worth noting that Drew’s brother, Nick Evers, originally committed to Oklahoma out of high school before transferring to UConn. Ohio State remains a serious contender in Drew’s recruitment, and his upcoming official visit could be a pivotal moment.

WR Jeremiah Smith (All B1G, B1G Frosh/WR of Year, All-American, 2025 Rose Bowl Off MVP, National Champion)

Jeremiah Smith's definitive statement on leaving Ohio State for the NFL was perfectly on brand for the Buckeyes star

img_9679.webp

The Ohio State Buckeyes are at the top of the college football mountain after winning the National Championship last season. While this year's roster is much different, the fact that they produced three individuals on the cover of College Football 26 is telling that they're still to be feared.

Ohio State fans should be able to enjoy their top playmaker, Jeremiah Smith, for two more seasons. The NFL doesn't allow entrants into the NFL Draft until they've been out of high school for three years, which is great news for Buckeye fans, but bad for Smith, as he'll have to wait to get an NFL contract.

With the emergence of NIL, it's not as big of a deal as it was when Maurice Clarett sued the NFL two decades ago. That decision derailed his Ohio State career and NFL tenure.

Unlike Clarett, though, Smith has no plans of leaving the Buckeyes early or sitting out a season like Ja'Marr Chase did.

“I’m enjoying college,” Smith said. “I’m in no rush to go to the NFL.”

Just sayin':

1) First it was "But I’m just all about the team first. I just want to win that big one, that national championship. That’s all I really care about. We’ve gotta repeat and win it again." and now it is “I’m in no rush to go to the NFL.”

2) Besides being (probably) the best player in college football, Jeramiah Smith is truly a "class act"

Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

A lot of SEC schools get criticized for their weak non-conference schedules year after year. It's refreshing that Kelly is looking to improve that by adding a Big Ten team to the schedule every single season. The Ohio State Buckeyes certainly have no issue playing SEC schools.

Ohio State is scheduled to play Texas, Georgia, and Alabama in home-and-homes in the next six years. They are clearly not afraid of these premier matchups, as they know it will help them prepare for Big Ten Conference games, as well as College Football Playoff games.
