2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

In case you wondered too:

Did you know these @FIFAWorldCup trophy facts?

Google AI: The FIFA World Cup trophy contains roughly 5 kilograms (about 11 pounds) of pure gold.
Here is how the trophy's composition breaks down:
  • Total Weight: The entire trophy weighs 6.142 kilograms (13.54 pounds).
  • Gold Purity: It is made of 18-karat gold, meaning the precious metal is a mix of 75% pure gold and 25% other strengthening metals (to prevent it from denting when handled).
  • Hollow Design: The trophy is hollow. If it were completely solid, it would weigh well over 150 pounds and be too heavy for players to lift.
  • Raw Gold Value: Thanks to climbing precious metal markets, the physical gold inside the trophy is intrinsically valued at around $713,000.
  • Total Worth: Once you factor in its historical significance, rarity, and the malachite stone at its base, the trophy is estimated by FIFA to have an overall heritage value of about $20 million.
Just sayin': The Stanley Cup is still the best trophy.

2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

Has anyone ever come back from a 4-0 HT deficit? In the world cup that is.
Google AI: The biggest come-from-behind win in World Cup history is shared by two legendary matches where teams rallied from three goals down.
  • Austria vs. Switzerland (1954): In the quarter-finals, Switzerland took a 3-0 lead within the first 19 minutes. Austria remarkably leveled the score by the 27th minute and went on to win the highest-scoring match in tournament history 7-5.
  • Portugal vs. North Korea (1966): During the quarter-finals, tournament debutant North Korea shocked Portugal by taking a 3-0 lead by the 25th minute. Portugal's Eusébio took over, scoring four goals to lead his team to a 5-3 victory.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Well, it's been my experience that laws are made/written, whatever. However, they don't mean much until they are adjudicated in a court of law. Where each and every sentence is sliced and diced. An allegory might be - what's the speed limit? Answer is - whatever the highway patrol enforces. Same with players CBA, and the 'five to play five' rulings.

OSU Women's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Interesting Bestbuck. If McDuff 'goes big', having Elsa at the 5, Mobley at the 4, and Kitts at the 3/4, could/would assume that the Buckeyes would control the boards. But with only two quick players at the PG and SG, not certain how McDuff's beloved full court press would be effective. Really don't see him giving up on his calling card. But when tOSU plays the SC's (South Carolina), and UConn's of the world, that kind of look might be more effective than four smaller guards running around.
Exactly. In the tourneys our press hasn't been as effective so we have to win more in the half court game. At least there seems to be options right?

2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

This is setting up for the greatest swan song ever. Messi will get the winning goal to pass Mbappe again and win the Golden Boot and the World Cup as he rides off into retirement.

Then Mbappe completely obliterates it next World Cup as we all hold our breaths for Yamal to try to beat them all.

I'm here for all of that.

TN RB David Gabriel Georges (Tennessee Verbal)

Not to be argumentative, but has Birm actually spoken to DGG and/or family? Block O is special here, as is #45, and the Big Cat directly asked Archie if he would mind. Block 0 is a different animal methinks, and given to a player of proof of his gifts/contributions to the Buckeyes on the field. If you say Birm iterated his direct contact, my mind will be at ease.

2026 World Cup (Official Thread)

This scoreline is not helping pissed off England supporters (4-0 England at half in Third-Place Match).
France's defenders are playing like they've bet on England. I'm an England supporter unless they play the US, and I'm enjoying it notwithstanding still being irate about Tuchel's turtling in the game that mattered.

Ohio State Men's Golf (Official Thread)

Never realized that TSUN and tOSU shared Alistar Mckenzie designed golf courses. Has been my bucket list to play Donald Ross, Jack Nicklaus and AM courses whenever could. OK, take that one off my list, wouldn't pay or play up there. Maybe the grounds keeper, or greens superintendent is a secret Buckeye? At my course, if the greens superintendent loses a green, he would lose his job. That's why they hold incoming shots so well, he keeps them watered during our 108 degree days. But it is interesting that just the greens have browned up. Betcha someone loses their job over this one.....
Found the greens superintendent:

Cincinnati Reds (2026 Season Thread)

Outstanding squeeze by the Rockies. That's how you play the fucking have Reds! Dipshits

Rockies playing station to station baseball perfectly today. It's actually a beautiful thing to watch just wish the guys in the other uniforms knew how to do it
The Reds must truly be cursed if the Rockies are engaging in smart baserunning against them. They’re usually good for at least one outright base running blunder per game.
