Not saying the Senator == Raffy

I think I may have confused someone - I'm not stating that Coach T is just like Raffy Palmeiro....I'm saying that the action he took is very similar.

Both knew what they did was wrong. But did it anyway.
Both knew they had an obligation to tell the truth. But didn't anyway.
Both had numerous opportunities to come forward with the truth. But didn't.

That's all I'm saying. Both guys made a decision that has (and will) cause doubt and cast a gloomy shadow over their respective organizations.

My guess is there won't be any haters for those two games. They will be huge Buckeye victories. Not worried at all. They're going to have to pull the starters at halftime, because the Buckeyes will be playing with vengeance this year.

Not defending anything anybody did, but a little bit of "us against the world" and "Bad Boy" image could go a long way.

So, yeah, Gordon Gee could coach those first two games, or the first four, it doesn't matter. Big Buckeye victories.

Go Bucks.

Okay, this will probably get me banned, stoned, tarred and feathered, but, here goes...

"Although the Mountaineers were favorites for a third straight FCS title and entered the game with a 14-game winning streak?the longest in either the FCS or FBS ?the game was expected to be such a mismatch that some Las Vegas sportsbooks refused to offer a betting line. Michigan was a 27-point favorite in the contest."

And they had all their starters on the field. True, it was the same Michigan team that (cough, hack, wheeze) Bill Callahan's Huskers beat in the Alamo Bowl (barely).

I'll say this - you guys should win your first game quite handily. Kevin Cosgrove is the Defensive Coordinator of the Akron Zips, LOL.

Oh gawd....the tapestry of the college football season is getting frayed already, LOL

I hope you don't think I'm pointing my finger at ya, LOL.

You should read the other thread I had been posting on. Like I said, this could have happened (and will continue to happen) to other teams.

Hell, back in 1995, Dr. Tom Osborne played Lawrence Phillips in the Orange Bowl and caught a lot of hell.

Last I checked, Phillips was serving like a 25 year sentence for attempting to run down some kids in a pickup football game.

Thunder Collins, a much ballyhooed athlete out of California was a mediocre running back here. He's now serving a life sentence in the Lincoln Federal Pen for murder.

And we had Bill Callahan as our head coach. Nuff said.

We're far from perfect, trust, LOL. My statement was just because it's a shame that the NCAA is going to probably attempt to come down on tOSU hard because of WHO they are.

Cam Newton won a NC and a Heisman, and ain't nothing happened to his butt.

I guess you have to be an entertainer AND an icon to get away with it.

LOL, true that. I posted that because five games is a lot of games, guys. Don't assume all five games are 100% winnable - be fair to the team. You'll be without your Heisman Trophy candidate Quarterback, starting Tailback, one of your WRs, and an offensive Tackle, along with a defensive lineman.

It's tough to lose those guys for five games - and then when they get back, they'll be rusty after missing half the season.

Not bashing them, but here in Nebraska, some fans' expectations of the team go a little.....how should we say....overboard? LOL

A Husker fan here with respect and appreciate all the love I've gotten here over the years I've been on here. On the outside looking in, this don't look good now...

I posted on another thread supporting the guy, thinking that He's not going to get busted that bad after the suspension and fine...then I read this (from TSN):

Ohio State's official letter to the NCAA regarding violations within the football program sheds more light on Tuesday's confusing press conference, and likely leaves the school in serious trouble with the NCAA.
The letter clearly explains the process by which coach Jim Tressel failed three times to tell his superiors about evidence of NCAA violations.

The three specific times:

-- Tressel signed a document on Sept. 13, 2010 that said he was not aware of NCAA violations.

-- He failed to tell school officials on or around Dec. 9, 2010 about emails he received in April explaining players' involvement in selling memorabilia.

-- He failed to tell school officials about the emails - or his knowledge of players selling memorabilia -- when specifically asked on Dec. 16, 2010. He also misled school officials that day when stating he "did not recall from whom he received the tip," and that he "did not know that any items had been seized."

The letter states, "The institution is very surprised and disappointed in Coach Tressel's lack of action in this matter," but goes on to say that the violation is 'out of character' for Tressel and that he has a "proven history of promoting an atmosphere of NCAA compliance within the football program."

Another significant - and potentially more damning -- issue: In a Feb. 8, 2011 interview, Tressel admitted it was 'inevitable' that players named in the email had committed NCAA violations and would be ruled ineligible. In other words, Tressel knew the players were ineligible and played them anyway.

His reason at Tuesday night's press conference for playing them: He didn't want to interfere with a federal investigation. Either way, that admission jeopardizes any hope of Ohio State has of keeping its 12 victories from the 2010 season, and paves the way for more serious sanctions from the sport?s governing body.

That one statement - in conjunction with Tressel lying about the emails and misleading university investigators -- can be the foundation for lack of institutional control charges.

That charge is the most serious the NCAA can levy, and could result in probation, lost scholarships, and even vacating the entire 2010 season.

I can certainly see vacating 2010 as a possibility based upon those bullet points. And it wouldn't be a surprise if JT is suspended for a large portion of 2011.

Just need to learn from mistakes and get better.

I don't think that they'll make tOSU vacate the entire season, LOL. TSN is smoking something if they think that. But they may have to vacate the bowl win. It's hard to say - the NCAA is hardly consistant in their punshment of schools. Just look at UNC and USC.

Not the same, do you not understand the biggest fact?

Bruce Pearl - Directly lied to the NCAA

Jim Tressel - Mislead the media in an interview. Did NOT lie to the NCAA.

Correct but to the media, JT's transgression is more serious because of who he mislead......
The self-righteous media....

I just read the e-mails. I'm gonna take a hit on this, but it looks to me like the drug excuse is just that - an excuse. It was not the main focus of the e-mails. The gist of the e-mails involved the stuff that was signed and sold - possibility for free tats or cash - an about the rings and memorabilia sold or exchanged at the tat parlor.

The lawyer did not e-mail to Tress and say the players were being investigated as possible drug suspects. The lawyer in the e-mail said that they were doing exactly what they did in tat gate.

Tress looks much worse when you read this stuff. It is inexcusable. I think the penalty is too light, and I think the press conference comes off as misleading at worst, and disingenuous at best. Once people read the e-mails - the failure to report will look self serving for reasons keeping kids eligible. I do not know Tress' reasons, and you can take him at his word, but after reading the e-mails I do not buy it that it played out like it is being portrayed in the conference. I'm sorry to say it.

And I do not think that the NCAA will go along with the 2 games. I think it will be worse. And it should be. Fire away.

Totally agree, and I'm sure if the players involved were all 2nd or 3rd stringers, JT would have reported it right away!

Trust me - the NCAA isn't going to look at it that way. This is a crime of omission to them. And the one thing about those kinds of crimes is that you can't use the "I didn't know" excuse, because the NCAA just slaps the "Lack of Instutional Control Scarlet Letter" on the university and coach.

haha [censored] what everyone else thinks. We're doin US. O State baby. Let's go win a National Championship, I'm sure everyone would love that load on their face.

Tressel's a football coach, not a pastor. He's still a great man and has helped thousands of kids in his lifetime. He will learn and grow from his mistakes.

Whatever, wake me up when he starts paying players.

The NCAA should try catching the real cheaters. Tressel would PALE in comparison. And this whole [Mark May] show originated from a violation that shouldn't even be considered a violation...sweet.

Edit: I forgot, Go Bucks.

Are you kidding me?!? LOL - funny. I must have missed when the NCAA concidered that playing players that shouldn't be playing wasn't an offense.

They had Pete Carroll by a toe until he skipped to the NFL at the last minute...almost like he planned it. :susp:

As far as vacating wins from 2010 - its a possibility but it will either be all of the games or none.

No way does the NCAA vacate just the bowl game. Think about it, before the bowl game even happened "Tattoo Gate" was released and dealt with. Before kick off to the Arkansas [censored] kicking, the crimes came out and the punishment was dealt. If anything, the bowl game is untouchable - the regular season on the other hand is questionable at this point.

Sneaky Pete had connections inside the NCAA - remember, he WAS the head coach of the PATRIOTS.....Spygate, anyone?
