I remember lots of making fun of Michigan for their relatively minor violations, Auburn obviously, Alabama, USC, etc.
Then we need to recognize how stupid it is to delight in violations being uncovered at other schools. It happens everywhere, and frankly the whole "it's so much worse in the SEC" crowd is looking increasingly clueless to me.

@21: My 2 cents - I don't care and will play along as long as we continue to label what is essentially a free farm system for the NFL 'amateur' athletics. By 'we' I mean everyone from university presidents to the fans who believe athletes shouldn't be paid while at school (via university stipends or external revenue sources like part time jobs, commercials etc.). Until people break the law, of course, at which point I definitely care about the university's association with them.

Edit: (Don't want to double post). For those who care about 'fairness', what exactly is 'fair' about the system today? Are all NCAA member institutions sharing revenue equally for 'fair' distribution of resources? Are institutions drafting high school players starting in reverse order of the previous year's on field record for on field competitive 'fairness'? Forget perceived advantage, isn't there a true, distinct advantage on one side of the field when say Ohio State plays Akron? We have this convoluted system of pretending a competitive, multiple firm, multi-billion dollar industry is a) 'amateur' and b) a league with rules to ensure a fair playing field on Saturday. There is no 'equal footing' in college football today. A player getting tattooed or getting $180,000 to play doesn't change that fact, nor does punishing them.

Here is the thing folks...and Clarity will cringe when he reads this.

No cringe here. I originally followed that with six paragraphs of clenched-jaw raging about the NCAA and those who are willing to gain at the expense/injury of others -- but it was too poorly constructed (bordering on nonsensical and ultimately impotent raving) to stand.

There are no winners at the program-to-player level here. Not even opposing fans who just LOVE to see us take these lumps. The media wins. The NCAA wins. The already fat and rich get fatter and richer -- but what else is new?

Can a truly honest man exist (and/or succeed) in an inherently dishonest system? Is he still honest if he does? Riddle me that one, Batman.

Meh. Tear down the NCAA. Start from scratch. Cleanse with fire unreachable parasites at all levels -- not everyone can be saved. Not going to happen.

See, nonsensical and impotent raving. So for me (and this is an individual consideration, as you note), I have to ask myself how much I'll allow myself to care.

Get out of your dang fairytale.

This is big business. Period. Ask yourself if you really want to know the truth or would you rather continue your happy saturdays rooting for your favorite college players. I will not confine this to your favorite Buckeyes...I am saying your favorite players across that 11am-2am EST solid block of college football.

It is the best show in the land.

Do you really want to know? Do you care as long as the intensity and weekly drama plays out?

College football has not changed in 60 years...the microscope has changed though.

The question is, do you care?

It's the perfect business model. How much money would you have if you owned the Pittsburgh Steelers and didn't have to pay the players?

Just follow the Money Trail! Google: The House That Harley Built, Chic Harley, Lynn St. John, Thomas French, 1920, etc.

That was when OSU saw the $, $$$, $$$'s and showed all the rest of the Universities in our country what becoming a Free Farm System for Professional Football could do for you!

My three year old grand daughter has become a real chatterbox. She has also recently added the word "stupid" to her vocabulary.

Yesterday she said something to her mom about the "stupid tooth fairy". Mom asked why the tooth fairy was stupid and was told: "My tooth was loose and I ate an apple and my tooth came out and I put it under my pillow and the tooth fairy came and put it back in my mouth, see?" At which time she smiled and showed that all of her teeth were indeed in place.

Sorry. Had to share, and this seemed like the right thread.

I'm only really sure of one thing in this whole debacle: Ohio State is [Mark May] at cheating and covering stuff up (you would think that if this was an institutional level problem, they would have gotten better at it).

I also have a hard time believing that these type of violations are not worse in the SEC. I'm not saying 10 times or even 5 times worse, but they are likely just better at skirting the rules.

Lastly, I can't wait for all of this to be over. Everything out there, sanctions in, case closed, clean house, and move on.
