I used to live in Arkansas (a one team state) and if local media was doing this to the University of Arkansas football team, they would have been run out of the state. College football in the South is in a different galaxy.
First, Arkansas fans are some the most bat shit insane fans on the planet (seriously) and, second, I guess you missed all the fallout surrounding the recruitment of the Mitch Mustain. It turned out that under AD White and HC Nutt the athletic department was a cesspool.
The point is that Alabama fans pay attention to Alabama news. Arkansas fans pay attention to Arkansas news and OSU fans pay attention to OSU news and none of them is spending much time paying attention to news outside their respective conferences.
It may seem like (insert your team of choice here) is being unfairly singled out by the media but it's not. Yeah the likes of OSU, Mich, Alabama, USC are going to get more print coverage than UNC Ashville or UT Corpus Christi because they are much higher profile names. You get more coverage because of your high profile - on both the good stuff and the bad stuff. I'd like to think the NCAA and the media had some personal axe to grind to with my school when they voided our 2008 basketball season over the Derrick Rose thing but they didn't really. Same here. If you were putting together one of histories greatest football seasons you'd be getting just as much press, the only difference would be you'd be relishing in it rather than cringing at it.
