Remember

I am happy for this news and credit Gene Smith. Why you ask. Remember what committee he knows inside and out. JT took the fall but will not get fired. He takes a knock on his character that was at God status and the knock he takes is protecting his players. The appeal process will go into 2012 and by then there will be more crap for the Media to cover. OSU has a succesful run in 2012 and set up for years to come and JT can retire or keep coaching. Go Bucks.. All together can we say UCONN basketball. I think Calhoun had a nice smile on his face.. I believe the same media even the Governor of Conn. was calling for his head.. I personally believe others knew and had time to work out a solution...

I'm pretty sure they knew they were ineligible.

That's why I whole heartedly believe the NCAA has no idea on what they're doing. If they tell the school to vaccate wins, but rule the players eligible for the bowl game, WTF is that?!?

Pig Latin thought processing at it's best. Gotta love the AANC, LOL.

 Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me either. I was on the side that said they shouldn't have played in the Sugar Bowl (obviously didn't complain that they were allowed, however ).

The one good thing out of all of this - they're done going after the players. Yes, they made mistakes, but don't persecute them like they're freaking criminals.

The NCAA makes all that loot off these guys then shakes their fingers at them when they take a hand out to get a bowl of freaking ramen noodles, LOL.

1. Mandel claims that "past precedent for Bylaw 10.1 violations suggest the odds of Tressel keeping his job are slim." What Mandel fails to realize is that neither he nor the NCAA is Jim Tressel's boss. Gene Smith and Gordon Gee are Jim Tressel's bosses, and they will make firing/retention decisions based upon the entirety of the fact pattern, not the one factoid that few violators of Bylaw 10.1 have remained employed.

2. Coach Tressel made a huge, huge mistake. He deserves to pay a pretty stout price for doing so. He seems resigned to accept such a price.

3. As regards whether Coach Tressel will (should) retain his job, the key question IMO is this: "Would Buckeye student-athletes, and the Buckeye football team performance, benefit or suffer from dismissal of Coach Tressel?" For me the answer is clearly in favor of his remaining our head coach, but you may disagree.

I felt that way as well. That's exactly why they say 'justice delayed is justice denied'. In this case, it just muddies up the waters so badly no one can figure out what the fuck makes any sense...

Once a coach is fired or resigns under pressure, the team isn't the same for a very long, long time. They have to learn a new system, new coaching tendacies, etc.

But the NCAA has already shown they don't truly care about the athletes. They only care about that almighty dollar.

How ironic they're not coming down on the folks at the Fiesta Bowl harder, LOL.

Not sure how a football head coach's falsifying an NCAA form brings shame on an entire academic institution. Believe it or not, there are a shit-ton of folks in academia that could give a shit about college football...

What compelling reason could they have other than to gain a competitive advantage? If Tressel knew they would/should be ineligible, what reason(s) could he have for playing them, other than to win games? I doubt the NCAA would take "character-building of young men through athletic endeavor" as a compelling reason.
I know that I am in the minority when it comes to this entire situation but you are exactly correct. There is no other way to put it except for the fact that Coach Tressel flat out lied to gain a competitive edge. In my mind, there is no other way to put it.

I don't think you are necessarily in a minority anymore. Seems like people are coming around to accepting the evidence available and the notion that JT made a pretty big error. The question amongst most now is whether this is a firable offense. Loads of folks on both sides of that fence and I'm sure quite a few sitting on it.
