So, based on the NCAA declaring the 5 eligible for the Sugar Bowl, if they do decide we have to forfeit the 2010 season, what happens to that game?

It's a win.

Our record (IMO) for 2010-11 is 1-0, with a win over an SEC team.

And no, Michigan did not beat us- vacated wins are not losses.

This is Dead on Accurate.

Why do people feel OSU will vacate wins? IMO, that's absurd. The players involved are sitting for the next 5 games and the NCAA has already stated that penalty won't change. If you are saying they vacate wins, then you are adding to their penalty by saying they should have sat out additional games. Also, I don't see that anything has actually changed. The NCAA had to send a notice of allegations once they received OSU's self report. Everything in that self report was known to OSU when they punished JT in the first place.

First, we are not going to vacate wins foremost because the 6 players returned and are serving their punishment prospectively rather than retroactively. Second, and bear with the corny sound of this, the NCAA knows that JT did not (do/refrain from doing) his (misdeeds/obligations) to gain a competitve advantage. In their notice to OSU the NCAA specifically requests that OSU explain WHY they put ineligible players on the field. I believe they will get a compelling reason.

That's my biggest question. They knew the players were ineligible at that point, if I'm remembering correctly here.

1) They were serving this suspensions before all the information had come out, correct? And they're serving a five game suspension even though they were ineligible all year.
2) And the NCAA can't assume that a coach had the best intentions while essentially lying to them. As much as I love Tressel, I can't even assume that at this point.

What compelling reason could they have other than to gain a competitive advantage? If Tressel knew they would/should be ineligible, what reason(s) could he have for playing them, other than to win games? I doubt the NCAA would take "character-building of young men through athletic endeavor" as a compelling reason.

Question - how would the NCAA determine those 5 were ineligible during the season - when they declared them eligible for the game? That kinda sounds like double jeopardy in a messed up way.

Am I the only one that finds humor in the Sugar Bowl being the only win that might stick from that season? I mean a weird, sick kind of humor, but humor nonetheless.

That's what makes zero sense in this situation. The NCAA is garbage, so it likely makes some sort of weird sense in a purely bureaucratic sort of way, but it won't make much sense to anyone with a functioning brain (which also excludes the SEC fanbases)...

It's probably wishful thinking, but they may have listed that is as a pro-forma option they could use since they insist upon using the repeat offender language.

Either way, I fully expect the NCAA to fuck this up somehow, just because they are the NCAA.
