Game Thread Wisconsin at tOSU, Sep 28th, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

This Borland guy sounds about as a big of a douche as his former coach. Here's my favorite part:

“The games I’ve missed were frustrating for me personally,” he said. “But we had team success—won one and played well in the second.

“So it has been kind of highs and lows.”

Mostly lows, however. UW went 1-5 against Ohio State during Bret Bielema’s seven-year run as head coach, and the Badgers are 1-3 against the Buckeyes since Borland arrived in Madison in 2009.

borland is another in a long line of "ohio" guys who didn't get recruited by OSU so it's their mission to be as big a d-bag is possible whenever discussing OSU

Quite frankly, I was more worried about the Cal game than I am about this game. I just don't see any way Wisconsin's offense can score more points than our offense, and b/c of that it's going to be hard for them to win the ballgame.

Picks: Notre Dame, LSU and Buckeyes win tight games - CBS Sports

Ohio State 28, Wisconsin 24: The Badgers are fantastic grinding out big yardage on first down and the Buckeyes really haven't been tested at all yet. But I'm sticking to my rule from last year ... until someone in the league beats him, I'm not picking against Urban Meyer in a Big Ten game.

I feel uncomfortable with all the talking heads saying "tight game', perhaps, because unlike the rest of BP, I think so to. I have suffered thru way too many defeats from W.
Well, I think they're reticent to pick a 20+ point win because of the nature of this matchup over the last few years. It's a lot easier to just look at the stat sheet and say, "Oh yeah these two teams are so close WOOHOO game of the week."

In reality, I don't think this is a good matchup for UW and I'm not expecting it to be as close as the pundits seem to think it will be.

They're saying its close because we haven't faced a smashmouth offense yet this season. Our problem last year was tackling....and that's the one thing that needs to be perfect against a smashmouth team of this caliber.

I really think the first quarter is huge. If the Buckeyes can get 14-21 points on the board, Wisconsin will have to go from strength (Rushing) to weakness (Passing).

It's the only thing that concerns me about Braxton coming in cold: a slow start by the Buckeye offense is really the only way I can see Wisky staying in this game.

Some interesting notes from Wisky this season:

They had 388 yards rushing against Purdue (A game Wisky led 14-0 and 21-10). 139 of those yards came on 4 carries. Their other 44 carries netted 5.6 yards/carry. Still great, but the big play was key.

They completed 57% of their passes, the worst number against Purdue this season. Cincy 68%, Indiana State 64%, Notre Dame 60%.

Against Arizona State, Wisky ran for 231 yards. 80 of those yards came on 1 carry. Their other 31 carries netted 4.8 yards/carry.

They completed 51% of their passes, the worst number against Arizona State this season. Stanford completed 64%, and Sacramento State completed 52%.

Here's my ultimate takeaway:

Don't allow the big (And I mean BIG) runs, and Wisconsin becomes a good rushing team, not a great one.

Force them to pass, and they become very inefficient. This inefficiency came against average, if not poor, secondarys.

Therefore, I believe the Buckeyes have the advantage in every possible area. Go Bucks!!!

Since this is my birthday game I thought I'd share my "Things I'd like to hear Brent Musburger to say".

"You are looking Live..The Buckeyes just scored!".

On Braxton: "That ladies and gentleman is how you get invited to NYC even after missing 3 games".

On Kenny: "There's that man again, he's 6/6 tonight with 3 TD's and 157 yards passing".

"Well pardner the badgers trip to the woodshed began when Wilson returned the opening kickoff and the Buckeyes haven't let up yet here with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter".

"This is easily the most complete team I've seen all season"

"Oregon who?"

"Roby jumped all over that route and had clear sailing 17 yards for the touchdown!"

"Shut up Herbie"

"Spence with the sack"

"Washington with the sack"

Bosa with the sack"

"Shazier with the stuff sack interception fumble recovery"

And finally the one thing I'd like to hear starting from about midway through the second quarter would actually come from the scarlet clad crazies 107,000+ strong.

Not to be negative because I see us winning too but this analogy was used by almost every single analyst except maybe a small handful when predicting tOSU vs. Oregon in the 2010 Rose Bowl. We proved them all wrong and won the game because we controlled the clock with a Rose Bowl record 41:37 TOP. Wisky has a good ground game and defense, 2 huge ingredients needed in this strategy. We don't want to try to play the same game as Wisky. We need to hit them in the mouth early and often and gain a lead. It's interesting but we all expected a hurry up offense all the time after Urb said he wanted an uptempo team but we really change gears and do it quite well. I think it's one of our often overlooked strenghts. It's something Bama even does. We can quick strike or we can pound it up the middle with Hyde.

On Monday, I expected a dog fight

Then I pored over the game-by-game stats for both teams and their opponents and for THEIR opponents. Came away with the impression that Wiscy is a one-dimensional fraud.

Then I heard a lot of pundits on BTN and elsewhere pick Wiscy, and I thought about how the Urban-led Buckeyes respond to being doubted.

Then I heard the interviews with the players and coaches this week. Yep, they're pissed off and focused.

Then I watched the Wiscy-PU replay. I have to respectfully disagree with those who describe Wiscy's defense as fast. They are not. They are slow. Very slow.

Now I believe that if the new Front Seven can grade at least a "C" in their first real test, then the biggest concern is that the Buckeyes will be overconfident after this game and will fail to properly prepare for Northwestern.
