Game Thread Wisconsin at tOSU, Sep 28th, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

Now I believe that if the new Front Seven can grade at least a "C" in their first real test, then the biggest concern is that the Buckeyes will be overconfident after this game and will fail to properly prepare for Northwestern.[/quote]

I am not overly concerned about this game, I think we win relatively comfortably, say around 21 points. What concerns me is these games are usually very physical, more so it seems than all but a few other B1G teams. I worry about us beating Wisky but coming out banged up and then having to play arguably the 2nd best team in the B1G, at their place, at night after they have had a bye week.

No way they take a ranked team lightly

This is oft-repeated leading up to every Buckeye loss of the last ten years

Having said that, I expect OSU to beat NW comfortably

I also expect that they will have a hard time getting "up" two weeks in a row and an under-performance is very possible vs NW

BTW: I only call them NW because they hate that

When did we sleep on a ranked team? Yes we've slept on unranked teams.

What I like about this week leading up to this game is we seem abnormally irritated and pissed off regarding wisconsin. This is music to my ears because this team needs that type of edge when playing a team that is going to challenge us physically. There are still a few things we simply must do to win this game.

1. protect the horizontally instead of vertically. If our secondary plays 10 yards off the ball I simply won't understand it. We must stop the jet sweep and dump passes to their backs if we let gordon house more than one from 20+ yards out our odds reduce big imo to win the game. Will we shut him down? Probably not but as we saw last year we can give up yards just not back breakers.

2. Control our emotions early. Night game, facing a team that was give Our championship, a team full of young talent, and a team surprisingly picked on upset alert it will be easy for us to forget our assignments or to turn the ball over. Many people feel wisconsin has to weather the storm early but I feel its us who must control ourselves in the first quarter.

3. Game changing plays. I'm talking about blocked punts, forcing turnovers, and playing smart.

4. Run the ball from all angles. Straight at them, around the edge or with our punter we need to run the ball to control this game. We have so many different weapons that do so many different things and we need to keep them guessing by attacking them from all over

First of all, can we please stop using 1st person pronouns when talking about the Buckeyes? It's not just you; this is a disease that has infected much of the board.

"Sleeping" on teams is your term. It implies that there is something about the opponent that caused the over confidence. This is seldom the case with the Bucks. The worst case of "failing to properly prepare" (my term) of the last decade was Glendale. That was the biggest no-show in OSU history. They did not sleep on Florida; but neither did they show up ready to play.

There are some people picking Wisconsin to win, but they seem to be few and far between.

Here's a roundup of predictions compiled on foxsportswisconsin.com:

Our own Jesse Temple via his Know the Foe series: Ohio State 28, Wisconsin 20

FOXSports.com's Clay Travis won't even take Wisconsin with seven points.
The Associated Press' Ralph D. Russo: Ohio State 28, Wisconsin 20

Collegefootballnews.com: Ohio State 37, Wisconsin 31. "Wisconsin will run the ball effectively and expose a Buckeye defensive front that needs a little work, but it won’t be enough. The Ohio State passing game will give the Badger corners problems, while the linebackers won’t be able to handle Miller and Hall in the open field. Every time it seems like Wisconsin will make a big push, the Buckeyes will answer."

All four Big Ten Network analysts are picking Wisconsin to lose. The scores: Brent Yarina 30-24, Stephen Bardo 35-31, Tom Dienhart 31-27 and Sean Merriman 31-24.

Whatifsports.com simulation: Wisconsin given just a 29.7% chance of winning with an average margin of victory for Ohio State of 25.3-18.9.

All six CBSSports.com analysts are picking Wisconisn to lose. However, all six think the Badgers will cover a 7.5-point spread.

CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman: Ohio State 28, Wisconsin 24. "The Badgers are fantastic grinding out big yardage on first down and the Buckeyes really haven't been tested at all yet. But I'm sticking to my rule from last year ... until someone in the league beats him, I'm not picking against Urban Meyer in a Big Ten game."

ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg and Brian Bennett: Rittenberg -- Ohio State 37, Wisconsin 20. "It wouldn't shock me if Wisconsin records the upset, but Ohio State has too much firepower, and the Badgers remain one-dimensional on offense. Melvin Gordon shows why he's arguably the nation's top running back with 180 yards and two touchdowns, but Ohio State rallies in the second half behind Braxton Miller, who accounts for three touchdowns in his return. This will be a fun one in Columbus."; Bennett -- Ohio State 34, Wisconsin 28. "Fun one is right. Wisconsin never gets blown out anymore, and the Badgers have the run game to give Ohio State's young defense fits. But I agree that the Buckeyes have a few too many weapons on offense, particularly with Miller's return, while the Badgers' passing game is too shaky. Miller leads the Buckeyes out to a big early lead before Wisconsin makes a late comeback behind scores from James White and Gordon. Bradley Roby intercepts Joel Stave to seal it."

ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach: Has Wisconsin as his upset pick of the week. For what it is worth, Schlabach is 2-1 in his upset picks this year.

Of the six analysts at USAToday.com only one – Eddie Timanus – is picking Wisconsin to win.

None of the four Athlon Sports analysts are picking Wisconsin to win. The scores: 31-21, 34-24, 34-27, 35-28.

Of the 10 analysts at the Sporting News, only one – the Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein -picks Wisconsin to win.

Coachingsearch.com's Chris Vannini: Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 28. "A year ago, Ohio State held Wisconsin’s running game in check, but this is a new front four that is unproven against a power running attack. The Badgers will move the ball, but there’s no slowing down Ohio State’s offense."

Coachingsearch.com's Pete Roussel: Ohio State 42, Wisconsin 24

Yahoo.com's Pat Forde and Graham Watson both pick Ohio State to win.

Phil Steele: Ohio State 37, Wisconsin 24.

First of all, can we please stop using 1st person pronouns when talking about the Buckeyes? It's not just you; this is a disease that has infected much of the board.

Why does anyone get pedantic about this? Do you really believe that the only people entitled to say "we" when referring to the football team are the 82 players on scholarship? As soon as a fan becomes part of the 100k+ in Ohio Stadium on a given Saturday, he or she helps create an atmosphere that can and does alter the outcome of the game.

If WE sleep on a team and fail to produce an electric atmosphere or fail to travel to Evanston in significant numbers (or vice versa, see the Cal game) It matters.

Banish the first person and you relegate the fan from active participant to passive observer. You sanction the passionless arm chair quarterback and empower the golf clapping alum who sits all game.

Sir, you may refer to the Buckeyes as "they", that is your right. I'll be civil and not call such detachment an affectation more befitting of a graduate of the school up north. :spitfire:

This has been a long standing tradition at BP. I'm not being pedantic, just upholding the way we've done things here since we started

And oh by the way

Go fuck yourself
