Game Thread Wisconsin at tOSU, Sep 28th, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

While watching the Wisc, Purdue game on BTN.. wiskys D can be frickin quick.. from the secondary, to the LBS
This worries me with our previous looks for our pass offense.. so many times they swarm and twist the O-line that would give any team the sweats.. this could be a problem with turnovers... short TE outs, screens, and inside hot seams seem to look open very frequently.

On the other side of the ball. .. their offense SUCKS HARD if the ball is in the air.. if I was Fickle.. I would put together some type of 5 man rush every snap in order to funnel the run into the middle and try to disrupt the RB while he is still in the back field and devote a spy on him to stop the 27647 screens they like to throw every game

Other than that.. I'll stick to my 142-3 prediction.

Big Ten predictions: Week 5

WISCONSIN at OHIO STATE

Adam Rittenberg: It wouldn't shock me if Wisconsin records the upset, but Ohio State has too much firepower, and the Badgers remain one-dimensional on offense. Melvin Gordon shows why he's arguably the nation's top running back with 180 yards and two touchdowns, but Ohio State rallies in the second half behind Braxton Miller, who accounts for three touchdowns in his return. This will be a fun one in Columbus ... Ohio State 37, Wisconsin 30

Brian Bennett: Fun one is right. Wisconsin never gets blown out anymore, and the Badgers have the run game to give Ohio State's young defense fits. But I agree that the Buckeyes have a few too many weapons on offense, particularly with Miller's return, while the Badgers' passing game is too shaky. Miller leads the Buckeyes out to a big early lead before Wisconsin makes a late comeback behind scores from James White and Gordon. Bradley Roby intercepts Joel Stave to seal it. ... Ohio State 34, Wisconsin 28

That's the thing, I haven't seen anything that says he's the nation's top running back. His line creates holes and he goes untouched. Yes that requires vision to do so, but there's lots of RBs with vision. So this speaks more for their line than it does him.

I guess you can look at it several different ways. I watched the replay of the Purdue game last night, and the announcers were noticing that, despite their high averages, the Badger backs were having to make several people miss even before they reached the second level.

I haven't seen a game, but only watch the highlight reels featuring him. But yeah I don't even see them trying to grab for him on the line. I guess we'll find out on Saturday.

Obviously I expect his numbers to drop precipitously as the Big Ten season goes on, but I still think he has all the tools to succeed at the next level. Sports Illustrated even has him projected to be picked in the first round (which would surprise me). I think he would be well-suited to stay another year for maturation reasons, but if people are telling him he's gonna go that high, he's got to strike while the iron is hot.

Hope to see Braxton come out and hit on all cylinders. Only thing I am worried about is that chemistry with the receivers on the passes considering he has been out for 3 games. If they decide to put Kenny and Braxton on the field at the same time I think using Braxton as a decoy from the RB spot or slot and put attention on him with play action or read option could open up a big play for age in Smith or any of our receivers really. Maybe even have Dontre out as well. Will be interesting to see the play calling Saturday! I am taking a 10 point win good guys.

I think Ohio State has a huge opportunity to make a BIG-altering statement here. In the past Ohio State has always had better talent than teams like Wisconsin, but we played the power rush offense/stout defense game - like them. Our superior talent usually alllowed a TP or BM to make a couple of plays that allowed us to squeek out a win - but occasionally not. I think they have the opporunity Sat night to tell Wisconsin and the rest of the league that the game has changed - that we are going to expolit the speed and skill player advantage we have - and if they want to play the old game, they are going to get embarrassed.

Looking at it from Wisconsin's pov, they can't get behind too far and they must control the clock. So, they have no choice to do what they do. If they stay close and limit our possessions by running the ball, they will have an opportunity to win. Our offense and special teams will probably have to help them out by giving them the ball. But their path to victory is very narrow.

In my dream scenario we start fast and are up 17-0 at the end of 1. We continue to score into the 2nd qtr and are limiting the running game enough to force 3rd and longs on each of their possessions, and when the defense gets them there, that they victimize Stave. Gordon or White will get loose at some point, but if they are behind by 3 scores, they will have to throw the ball to try to keep up - and then the chance to make the statement sets up perfectly.

I honestly don't like the idea of Kenny and Miller in the game at the same time. We have enough play makers on the field that we don't need them out there in tandem. Will be pretty obvious what we are doing with both on the field. I've never liked a 2qb set up to begin with. Stick with Miller or stick with Kenny. Abby is their only deep threat or threat receiver they have. Expect a lot of double tight with fb and rb in the backfield for Wisky with a lot of play action out of that formation to the TE and Abby on double routes. Our D really decides this game. Can't let Wisky control the clock and flow of the game with their run game. Contain, wrap up and tackle.
