Game Thread Wisconsin 13, tOSU 31 (Oct 10, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN)

Wins like this are always sweet - no matter how they happen.

I think a lot of people will want to rag on the offense and with good reason I guess especially through most of the first half it looked like they were going to lose this game for the Buckeyes. You gotta give credit to them for coming up with a big drive to take the lead and momentum back at the end of the first half. It had to be hard for them to get into a rhythm. They lost three possessions on the D/ST return TDs, and when the Wisconsin holding game gets going they can be hard to get off the field.

The defense really carried this team - and perhaps that's a sign that this is really a great team - because isn't this what great teams do - when one unit's struggling, the other one picks them up. This is a special defense and a special D-line. I hope people are taking the opportunity to enjoy what's happening in between the observations on Pryor or Bollman or Operation Chaos or whatever. Their feat was especially impressive considering how much time they had to spend on the field. The got 7 sacks when the Badgers had only given up 2 ALL YEAR. Tolzien is going be seeing a lot of large, fast and mean men wearing scarlet & gray in his sleep for a while.

A lot of players had career days today for the Bucks. How about Kurt Coleman? He sure made a statement after being forced to sit last week!

The fake FG by Wisconsin - it's a small gripe now but it was a game changer when it happened. Who didn't see that coming? Bielema tries that kind of bullshit everytime they play the Buckeyes. I was disappointed that for whatever reason they weren't prepared to stop that.

I was preparing to really rip on the Special Teams at the end of this one - the fake FG was one thing, but the Buckeyes were giving up ten yards per change in the punting game, the short kickoff near the end of the first half almost gave Wisky three point and the return game was seemingly absent once again until...

Ray Small finally gave us what we've been waiting for from him for so long. I'm glad to see him contribute, and that was a huge play - it essentially put Wisconsin away. After that Tressel was able to take the air out of the ball and let his dominant defense continue to do their thing.

I think that right now this defense will allow this team to hang with anybody in the nation. The offense will come along and hopefully be a force by the end of the season. They're going to need to be - because the last three games of this season are going to be tough. I'm looking forward to the Buckeyes being able to show what they can do against the best in a bowl game after that.

GO BUCKS!!!!! :osu:

While the D got a lot of good plays, and a TON of pressure, I felt like they weren't able to stop the long drives. Possessions of 16 plays, 14 plays, 9 plays and 11 plays are a little concerning. Of course, there was a heavy dose of trick plays, but the D should've been able to to stop them. On top of that, 368 yards, 118 yards on the ground, is not exactly encouraging.

The offense? Very scary. Pryor seems to get flustered easily. We've got a LOOOOOOOOOONG way to go on offense.

Ohio State might have the best defense in the country. Besides the Navy game they have been amazing. I think Alabama, Ohio State, Florida have the three best defenses in the country.

Ohio State offense didn't look that great. Pryor hasn't played well this year. Maybe it's all the expections but he has a few games down the road to improve and put up some numbers.

If the defense plays like they have, they should win the rest of their games. The Ohio St/Penn St match up might be a 7-6 game and if you like defense that will be a fun one to watch.

That wasn't the offense's best performance no doubt, but they showed up big on the two drives when it counted most:

  1. At the end of the first half, when they lost the lead. I think that was one of Pryor's best drives of the year.
  2. At the end of the third quarter when the Buckeyes hadn't run a play from scrimmage all quarter, they needed to put together some first downs to get their defense some rest. They not only did that, but they drove for a FG to make it a three possession game.

The only difference between tOSU and Bama at this point might be a guy like Ingram. But, we have Pryor. Both teams are really strong on D and rely on a powerful running game. With Boom out again with an injury, I'm all for giving more pt for Hall and Berry. Saine is a good back but sometimes we need a boost back there. Very good win for the Bucks overall.

Wisconsin came up with 0 points on both drives above, therefore... The D was able to stop them.

This reminds me of the 19-10 win over Iowa in 2003.

A kick return for a TD and a defensive TD and Iowa's only TD was on a fake
field goal with a blatantly missed holding call against Iowa.

2003 - 185 yards of offense
2009 - 184 yards of offense

1-TP just does not have a good command of an intermediate passing game right now. If Tressel called lots of 15 yard crossing routes, we would see lots of very ugly things.....People calling for more "creativity" on offense need to realize that feet like Savion Glover and a 4.4 40 do not equate to great field vision and brilliant decision making.

2-What can you say about the D that hasn't been said-the d-line is scary, Coleman is a true difference maker at S, Chekwa will become a rich man in the NFL.

3-Saine showed why he should be starting.

4-Kind of hard to grade the offense in the 2nd half-bizarre series of events, but they got it done w/ the one drive where they needed to. Only a great individual play by the Wisky DE-who is very good-stalled the drive for a FG.

5-Wisky will be very good next year. Their OL can be dominant run blocking against lesser Ds.

6-Mike Adams didn't have a very good game,IMO.

Wisconsin "holding" game? That's pretty classy. Take a shot at most of Wisconsin's success the last 15+ years, as if the win shouldn't be enough. If Wisconsin has used TOP to their advantage to control ballgames in the past, it's because they've had large offensive lineman and corresponding RB's.

And outside of guys like Aaron Gibson and JOe Thomas, a LOT of holding.

You're putting too much thought into it. Today, they held onto our DL like a TSUN fan to past glory and leather helmet era NC's.
