Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I think the hardest part for me to digest is to listen to all theae analysts and sports people talk about what a great coach he was, how much good he did for all his players, and an even better man that he is, when the majority of the sports world has spent the last 5 months crushing him. Sad day.
This shit is honestly what makes me want to tune out college football. The hypocrisy, double speak, and bullshit just makes it not even fun to follow at times. 2018 was like pulling teeth despite watching a team go 12-1 AND WIN THE B1G CONFERENCE. Yes I know Urban brought a lot of it on himself with Zack Smith but the media pile on, misreporting of facts, and acting like literally every coach in the country doesn't have problem people on their staff sickened me. Shit Saban recruited a kid charged with domestic assault and when said kid got charged again, no one said a fucking peep. Getting tired of following a sport where the rules apply to some but not the others.

It's hard to believe he can walk away entirely but he's not Urban without his staff. Pantoni/etc staying is very notable.

I agree with this, but correct me if I’m wrong.....Pantoni and Marrioti both stayed at UF when Meyer retired the first time.

Those guys aren’t going to step away just bc Meyer does.

I think it’s great they’re staying in Columbus though. Huge help to Day and should help him jump right into recruiting. If Meyer were to come back to coaching, I’d certainly expect some of our staff to move on though. That’s just the nature of the business....

Personally, I hope Meyer does return at some point. That’d mean his health is good enough to be on the sideline. Ultimately, I want him to be happy. I’m not sure how this has all unfolded makes him happy......just a guess and though.

Yeah, I'm having trouble shaking off the faint nausea I'm feeling. No way around it, this isn't happy-making news.

Regardless of wins or losses, it isn't going to feel the same way for me. Urban has charisma. That quality is valued because so few people have it. There was a special feeling having him on the sidelines. I hated seeing him drug through the mud this summer, it was an ugly start to the season. And really hate that that became part of his last season. I'm sure he, and the people who love him, would have liked to go out without seeing his name and reputation sullied. Screw ESPiN and screw all the talking two-faced heads who will never accomplish anything remotely close to what Urban has done in his career.

This is a dark day. The way Urban was treated by Smith and Drake was an embarrassment and left an unfair (and inaccurate) stain on his reputation that will follow him around for the rest of his life. This should've been his last coaching job. If he takes another job in a year or two we'll know that it wasn't the cyst that forced him out.

Gene Smith should've been fired six years ago. My mind was blown when we learned that he was the one who first heard about the Zach Smith incident in 2015 and he was the one to inform Urban. And then Urban gets suspended for a failure in reporting that incident? What a load of crap. When they made him sit there in limbo all day while Drake and the trustees debated his future you know he had to be thinking "I don't need this bullshit."

Thanks for everything, Urban. I love my university but its administration has caused me a lot of headaches over the years too. Sorry your bosses didn't treat you better.

I'd be fine with him coaching again as long it's not the fucking domers.

This, X a guhzillion. Not the first time he's let the university down. Yet, he everlastingly slides.

Wonder whose face (and other body parts) is in those naked photos Gene carries around in his briefcase for insurance. >:(

The day he leaves tOSU, I'll pop the cork on some champagne. (But, the way it's been going, they'll probably promote him to President instead.)

Did they leave after the second retirement? I think that's the key.

Also Pantoni is extremely young and has 3 decades left in him. At some point he needs to move on.

I do not see him returning to coaching anywhere any time. Having a cyst on the brain is nothing any of us can relate to.

I just hope that he goes out a winner and gets to enjoy his family for a long time.
He's known about it for twenty years, though. Is a guy as driven as Urban just going to go sit on the beach for the rest of his life? I'd be happy for him if he did. I'll be immeasurably steamed at Smith and Drake if he's winning championships somewhere else in a couple years.
