Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

He's known about it for twenty years, though. Is a guy as driven as Urban just going to go sit on the beach for the rest of his life? I'd be happy for him if he did. I'll be immeasurably steamed at Smith and Drake if he's winning championships somewhere else in a couple years.
None of us know if the cyst has grown and how it acts under stress which Urban has had over quite some time. The next time one of us sees a neurosurgeon they might want to ask.

I would just like to add I do not appreciate Drake one bit and that is putting it mildly. Still not sure about Smith but I am leaning..

Now I'm actually a little pissed we didn't get into the CFP. I have no doubt he could've coached up the team, beat Saban's ass one last time, and gone out with another natty.
I have loads of doubt. This team did not have a championship caliber defense. And Isaiah Prince would've been eaten alive.

The playoff sucks. If we still had the BCS it would be Bama and Clemson playing for the title, Oklahoma in the Sugar, Domers would be pissed, and Buckeye Nation would be thrilled to be playing in the Rose Bowl.

We won't know if it's truly health related for another 2-3 years. If he's not coaching somewhere else by then, then we'll know.

Brutal day.

I can't blame him whatsoever. The health part is something he's lived with for a while and you get to understand the things you have to do to keep going and make it tolerable. Believe me I know. But, after the bullshit this summer and the way it was handled, it's not worth the pain and the strict routine to keep fighting everyday. Add into that the whole damn thing is rigged against you - and the CFP is 100% - and it makes the decision easier.

I know he's having a hell of a time today trying to figure out what he's going to say and how. I expect it to be very emotional at 2pm. I really do hope he gets an admin job and helps clean up the way they help one another in the faculty either by being their checks and balances or their support when making tough decisions. We sure as hell need better PR people!!

Hate to see you go coach but you definitely will get the Sinatra sendoff. Did it all YOUR way.

(Someone else post the video, I'm at work and it's blocked)

Urban thrives in situations like this. Saban could have Herchel Walker, Dan Marino, and Jerry Rice on his team and I'd still bet my entire lifesavings on this Buckeye team.

I think the more underreported aspect of this “story” is the tumultuous offseason, even prior to the Zach Smith story.

Let’s not forget Greg Schiano was hired as HC in Tennessee and Alex Grinch was essentially our new DC. Then Schiano gets absolutely railroaded by Clay Travis, the media, and ultimately the University of Tennessee.

An off-season built around bringing in a new DC and transitioning to life without Coombs/Schiano is flipped upside down as Meyer now needs to sell Grinch on essentially accepting a demotion before he’s even started his job. Meanwhile, you have to reindoctrinate Schiano into the program, which should be easy enough, but the guy just lost his opportunity at a top 15-20ish coaching position in the country. Had to be demoralizing as hell to see that reaction in Knoxville and then the fallout.

Fast forward a few months, Urban Meyer is now essentially seen as a woman abuser as Brett McMurphy rolls out his hit job piece in which a troubled marriage is launched at the feet of Meyer even though Meyer’s direct boss was first made aware of situation and the proper chain of command was followed (not to mention no arrests were ever made).

So before we have even kicked the ball off on the season, we have a current coach who was railroaded in TN and a current coach who is fired over a protection order while dropping his children off, and then the backlash from that troubled marriage.

Just a shitty year from the jump, IMO. I’ve never experienced a more disappointing 12-1 season. The season was essentially ruined before it even started, IMO.

You go 12-1 and basically feel like you’ve had your balls kicked for an entire season. Certainly, part of this retirement has to be the question “is this all really worth it?”.

Right now, I don’t think it is. But I think that equation changes with time and a fresh situation.....again, just my opinion.

That's a bit unsettling that Helfrich was also a Chip Kelly guy
And that Chip Kelly cheated in recruiting. And still never won much of anything meaningful. No national championships. What? Two Pac-10 championships and one Rose Bowl? His teams never played defense. Do we know that Day will make the necessary changes on that side of the ball? Does he have a clue what "Silver Bullets" means?

If he feels, for whatever reason, it's time for him to go, best wishes. And if he is leaving because he feels alienated by Drake and the Board, I commend the low key, positive way he's choosing to step down. At the end of the day, Ohio State University will be fine. The athletic department will be fine. The football program will be fine. He was a small part of something much larger. It thrived before him and will do so after him.

That's the homer talking. Look at where the offensive linemen on the 2014 team got drafted and compare it to where the offensive linemen on this team get drafted. I'll bet the difference will be significant. Again, it's something we'll have to follow for the next 2-3 years.
