Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I think there was already some brand entropy going on, it was just a matter of how and where it would shake out. If you’re going to blow up your life, Jacksonville’s a pretty good venue. Can anyone explain why they even have a football team?
It’s the largest city in the US!

At least, by contiguous square miles (874+).

Totally, completely predictable.

1) Being a verbally and physically abusive asshole can be a great way to motivate 18-22 year olds who have few options. It doesn't work in the NIL/transfer portal era and sure as fuck doesn't work with professional, grown adults.

2) Jacksonville is only an hour away from Gainesville by I-10/US-301; there's a lot of overlap by the writers and AM radio personalities on the sports beat. Urban had made a lot of enemies in Florida ten to fifteen years ago who relished the chance to take him down a peg or two. I don't think Urban ever understood this, or that Pete Thamel & Tom Rinaldi wouldn't be around to do a puff rehabilitation piece on his behalf.

As Marty Brennaman said to Ken Griffey Jr after Griffey took exception to Marty calling him out for his routine of stretching a double into a single by jogging to first, "I was here before you were here and I'll be here long after you're gone."

Damn if ND could’ve waited a couple of weeks.

I’m actually really surprised at how quickly the flameout happened. Figured Urban would go 6-6 in year three or something and that would cause the freak out. Not even a full season? Goddamn.

So, how much money will Urban end up getting for 1 year of damaging his reputation in Jacksonville?

Depends on how hard Khan tries to push the angle that punting the kicker made it a for cause wracking.

God damn Urban this has been a total fucking embarrassment and disaster from the start. The kicking of the player lost a solid amount of respect I had for him. Completely unacceptable. This was well-deserved.

It seems like the decision was made to fire him, then Khan asked his lawyers how much it would cost him, and what could be used to minimize that cost, and then the “OMG!, he kicked the kicker!” story came out.

Sounds like some lawyers on both sides will get paid before they reach a settlement.
