Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Perhaps the most monumentally unnecessary crash and burn I’ve ever seen. What ever possessed him to take a job he didn’t need or want, to coach guys he didn’t know how to relate to, in a town with a team no one gives a shit about, under media scrutiny he knew he’d get, with a roster no one could win with…I mean what in the absolute fuck was he thinking?

Will go down as one of the greatest mysteries in sports.

Some people are pointing out on Twitter that the Jags have known about the "kicking the kicker" incident for a few months now. That it's coming out now (from a former player who sounds to still be a part of the "Jags family") seems likely to be more lawfare than coincidence - will be interesting to follow the jockeying around how much cash Urban walks away with.

My hypothesis is that with Saban winning his 7th CFB natty last year, Urban figured that the best, and potentially quickest, way he could possibly one-up Ol' Nick is by going to the NFL and succeeding where Nick had failed.

If not that, I couldn't think of any other possible reason. He has enough money and would've still banked it as a TV analyst.

Just so sad. I admit I had reservations about Meyer’s way of handling people but never about his results or his love of Ohio State Football and Ohio. I cheered any success he had after OSU because of the gutless screwing given to him by Drake and tOSU BOT. But I figured he would quit after a year rather than get fired after less than one.

time heals all wounds.

for UFM how much time will it take?

There was a lot of pushback when I said he would be a fool to take the job. Wow, this is a case study in destroying brand equity. I am so sorry he took that job.

His brand of coaching doesn't work in the NFL. For his sake I was hoping he would adapt, but he didn't. I always wondered if taking an NFL job was a way to free himself up to go back to college after quitting due to health issues. After tOSU any other college job is at best lateral and in most cases a step or two down. After the past year most college jobs are now a step up. I think he just wanted to get fired a few weeks ago so he could have been up for the big college jobs this year.
