UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Barca's chances to advance were completely shot when Pique went down with the concussion. I have no doubt that he has a concussion after he hit the turf and his arms were still partially lifted. Mad props to him for coming back into the game and attempting to play on. Their defense is too much of a liability when it's Puyol in the game at CB and someone in as a makeshift CB like Mascherano. He's getting old, he's slow, and just can't hold down the back line like Pique is capable of.

Hit it right on the head. Mascherano is an awful CB and they have nowhere else to play him. Puyol was asked to do way too much for what he has left in the tank. Pretty comical that Valdes (who could be the most brain dead goalie I've ever seen) knocked him out when he could've just grabbed the ball instead of emphatically punching it out of play. Can't say I've seen a momentum swing like this EVER. After the penalty miss, they never really got into any rhythm and just played desperate for the remainder. Messi's confidence was shot after that miss as well as he played pretty poorly & lazy after. Great job by Chelsea, that nine at the back formation was the best thing I've ever seen. Drogba played both right & left back at one point

I feel like I just watched a 45-minute Blue Jackets power play. What a limp performance by Barca. 90% of that time was spent with 9 white shirts within 20 yards of their own goal, with Barca and their system trying to be too clever by half. They had no urgency - as if the next goal was their right. In the last 20 minutes they should have at least tried to test Chelsea from distance. They had all kinds of room to shoot from just beyond the top of the penalty area, and with Chelsea packed in so densely they could have screened or wrongfooted Cech at some point. Oh well - live by the system, die by the system.

Jax is completely right. I tend to root for whoever Barcelona is playing because I can't stand the diving and the whining and the competition in La Liga is awful outside of Real Madrid so I'm happy with this result. This loss is all on Barcelona, they had an extra man for more than hour, Chelsea had no central defenders in the game for the last hour, Drogba played more defense than offense, and they still could not score. Missing the PK is one thing, but they wasted so many chances. Take ten shots from distance and one is going to bounce in or bounce out for a good rebound.

Barcelona's defense was not much better. The goal at the end of the first half, Ivanovic got an open header against three guys that he flubbed, and Torres had a one on one that he messed up five minutes before he scored.

Chelsea, however, will need a miracle to win the final as it seems like half of their team will not be able to play because of yellow cards. Team of destiny?

The only player I can think of that won't be in the final will be John Terry (straight red) and David Luiz (injury). Either way, this years Chelsea squad is built to go on a nice run within the Champions League, and they've shown it.

Looks like he blew his chance at redemption in the UEFA Final; but on the bright side, at least Chelsea won't feel compelled to let him kick shootout PKs again.

And John Terry is a cunt. (can't discuss him without mentioning that fact)

A couple of nice Serie A games on before the big UCL match.

In the Milan-Genoa game, which is commentated by Chris Sullivan and some other American retard, Boateng scores in the 85th minute to make it 1-0. Not 2 minutes later, you hear the crowd start groaning and booing. The announcers then say "they must have heard another score". Then Sullivan opens his obnoxious fucking mouth and says what the Juve score is. Gee, thanks cocksucker, because I wasn't DVR'ing that game to watch later or anything.

Further reason of why these douche bags should only cover CONCACAF and MLS.
