UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

I think you would have to add more subs if you were to play endless overtime as well as going back to the golden goal rule. Many of the players from both sides were completely exhausted before penalties. Bayern only used one sub during the game & it came in extra time. I despise penalties as well but I could see some of these games turning into endless stalemates if they were to play until a goal was scored.

I don't mind if you give an extra sub per team per 30 minutes of overtime. It would be preferable to PKs.

Sergio Ramos tried to fake out Neuer but he didn't bite. He didn't know what to do after that so he tried to go top shelf and it sailed on him. That kick did Real Madrid in.

I don't like that Bayern gets a home game for the final, but that's the way it works. ManU got to play on their home soil last year and it didn't work out for them.

I would have to think Chelsea will be training a CDM to play CB. Possibly Mikel or Essien. Then sit the other one in front of the defense alongside Lampard. Mata as the classic 10. Drogba up top. The two wide men a mix/match job of Malouda, Kalou, and Sturridge. The one that sits out will probably be first sub in off the bench.

We will need Mata to finish the full 90. In the event of going down a goal Torres will have to come on and play wide in support of Didier. In the event of going up a goal (Munich is short in defense as well) try to score again while they're recovering and then park the shit out of the bus in front of goal.

Easy enough, right? :/

Completely agree with golden goal and allowing more subs. These big teams carry huge rosters - might as well let them use them. Anything is better than
PK's, hell you could do each team has to play with one fewer player every 15 minutes after two periods of extra time.

Pep - I can't carry on

Guardiola bids emotional farewell to Barcelona

Pep Guardiola revealed that he no longer had the energy to continue as Barcelona boss after his departure from the club was confirmed at a press conference on Friday

The 41-year-old's future has been the subject of speculation for some time and he has now decided to step down at the end of the season rather than renew his contract, with Tito Vilanova coming in to replace him.

"Watching #cfc training. David Luiz & Gary Cahill playing full part, contact etc. Depending on any reaction, both look fit to start v Bayern"

Huge news for Chelsea. Also there is word that Sunday's 2 striker system playing Drogba & Torres was by design, mand RDM was trying to gauge their chemistry on the pitch at the same time. LINK.

One would think the lineup will now be:

Cech
Bosingwa - Cahill - Luiz - Cole
Mikel - Lampard
Malouda - Kalou
Mata
Drogba

If Chelsea goes down a goal Torres probably comes on for Mikel and the switch is to a 4-4-2. Essien on for Malouda to allow Lampard up the pitch, Sturridge on for Kalou to try and snatch a goal.

If Chelsea goes up by some chance then Torres will probably replace a fatigued Drogba, Essien comes on for Malouda/Kalou to beef up the midfield, and the third substitution made by need of the game.

I'm way too anxious for this.

Starters aside, I don't see it this way, at least not if the Blues go up... especially early. You can't go conservative against Bayern, you have to attack them, then attack them, then attack them some more. (Put a "counter" in front of all those "attacks" if you like). Long story short if Bayern's MF's can come forward without fear of getting beat the other way, Chelsea is in big trouble. With all the suspensions, we'll see whose D's hold up, I guess... if there aren't too many jitters, might be a lot of goals in this one. I think the Blues leave Drogba in as long as possible, no matter the score.

Without Gustavo the Munich midfield is most likely going to be Schweinsteigger, Muller, and Kroos. Three guys that love to go up the pitch. You're right, Chelsea counter attacks have to be potent...I'm hoping Lampard is the guy that gets the ball to spring the counter more often than not. He can find that forward pass much more than Mikel or Essien.

And Ribery and Robben on the wings, and Lahm for that matter... it's a lot of firepower.

The defense on the other hand is suspect, and the guys listed above know it...
