UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

What. A. Bogus. Penalty. WOW. I can't believe the ref just gave Barcelona a penalty off shirt pulling on a corner. It happens on EVERY SINGLE corner kick. How do you award a penalty in a game this big off that is completely mind blowing.

Milan are still in a good position only down 2-1. They've looked very dangerous on the counter. Robinho has played great as has Ibrahimovic. KPB & Seedorf will be key in the 2nd half to start the counter now that Milan HAVE to score.

Game would've been completely different had it gone 1-1 into the half. Still think Barcelona would've advanced considering how many chances they squandered but, rubbish penalty given so close to the half & only a few minutes after the Nocerino goal.

Bayern Munich ONLY won 2-0 over Marseille. Two first half goals from Ivica Olic was the difference. I guess they're saving there energy for Madrid in the Semi's in two weeks.

Bayern is now the team I'm rooting for AVIDLY. Fuck these Spanish teams. I'd be content with Chelsea winning the entire thing, I just don't think they have the fire power to win the thing.

Bayern have A LOT of pressure on them to make the final & win it considering it's in there home building. They could either rise up to the challenge or falter like Real Madrid did two years ago. That tie will be very intriguing because I can't say I have even a remote idea of the predicting it because both clubs are so loaded with talent at every level.

Barcelona-Chelsea (Pending Chelsea advance against Benfica) will be another interesting tie because Barcelona have an awful record on English soil & Chelsea will be out for revenge for what happened at Stamford Bridge three years ago. I think a lot of people will say Barcelona will advance with ease, but I think it will be much closer than many think, especially if Pique picked up a significant injury in today's game.

Chelsea 2-1 Benfica. Chelsea advance 3-1 on aggregate

Real Madrid 5-2 APOEL Nicosia. Real Madrid advance 8-2 on Aggregate.

Chelsea went up 1-0 on a Frank Lampard penalty early in the 1st half. Maxi Pereira was sent off for Benfica after picking up a 2nd yellow at the 40 minute mark. Chelsea fell asleep on a corner as Javi Garcia put the visitors within one goal in the 85th minute. The Blues were meant to sweat out the next seven minutes before Raul Meireles marauding run after a set piece clearance set him free on goal and he nicely smashed one home to put the tie in Chelsea's favor.

Semi-Final 1st legs are Tuesday, April 17th: Bayern Munich-Real Madrid & Wednesday, April 18th: Chelsea-Barcelona

I'm not sure how anyone can say with a straight face that they are a fan of Barcelona. What they do to advance in this competition is criminal. It's a god damn joke.

One could say the same for Manchester United and their favorable officiating in the EPL.

At least they don't rely on such a cheap tactic like Barca does. EVERY big game they are in, they get at least one PK, IF not two. IMO, they are ruining the integrity of soccer by relying on the officials to make crucial penalty decisions constantly.

What I'm trying to say, is there is plenty of acting in the game as it is... They don't need to be going out there and winning Oscar's for their performances. They're talented enough to compete with anyone in the world but still resort to bullshit.

On the other hand, Messi is renowned for his penchant to stay on his feet and avoid the dive at all costs.

(Not disagreeing with your overall point- the corner kick PK was absurd and the refs seem to routinely be the topic of discussion in Barca games, which is not good for the sport. Just showing some love to Messi.)
