tOSU Recruiting Discussion

It's hard to argue that a school's track record putting kids into the NFL would not influence a lot of kids. It is much more debatable whether, as Taosman is suggesting, one successful draft would influence several kids into committing shortly thereafter.
This. Draft success, particularly first round which is the big spectacle, would have a direct effect on recruiting imo. It would not, however, cause recruits to pull the trigger the next few days just because they saw a couple of buckeyes drafted in the first round.

We may happen to get a couple since I think there are some guys visiting, but it wouldn't be a direct correlation with the draft.

I would hope kids who are currently being recruited for the 2015 class would know that Ohio State has produced an NFL player or two. The idea that they would watch the draft and say......wait a second, that guy went to Ohio State AND got to the NFL?! this is news to me, I better jump on that ship immediately!.......kind of nonsensical.

On the flip side, if OSU didn't put a few in the first round every year and another school did, I'm fairly confident they'd point that out.

But if someone, somewhere said that kids were going to commit if OSU had a good draft then yes, that is stupid.

@wadc45 @MD Buckeye

Given the emergence of Dwayne Haskins Jr. and the recent offers to Jawon Pass and Zerrick Cooper (not to mention Xavier Gaines, Brandon McIlwain, and Jarrett Guarantano) do you think the staff is still looking at 2-0-1 in recognition of Danny Clark in '17?

It seems like 1-1-1 is much more likely at this point and maybe even the new goal after losing Wimbush in '15 and the new offers in '16.

On the other hand, they could be trying to secure someone and adding 2 with Gibson if at all possible and then going from there. So, 2-1-1 with Gibson, 1-1-1 without him?

I expect them to try and bring a QB in every year and they're making it apparent that they won't be skipping out on one in 2016, despite Clark already being committed for 2017.

Will be interesting to see how QB recruiting goes going forward, with Wimbush off the board. They're supposed to see Travis Waller throw on Thursday and I expect an offer shortly after. Obviously will be a tough pull from the West Coast & Oregon is supposed to offer/be the leader there. Deondre Francois continues to list OSU in his top 5, but many believe he'll stay south. I think you'll continue to see offers going out to QBs, while continuing to chase Gibson. They "learned their lesson" last year (Watson) & won't have all their eggs in one basket IMO. Have to see how the visits line up & where they stand after camp season.

So to answer, your final thought makes sense to me. 2-1-1 or 1-1-1.

Handwritten note to QB recruit’s cat nets Rice a verbal

BnuJWrjIQAAOJAG.jpg

According to Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston, Rice has been making a significant push to garner a verbal commitment from quarterback J.T. Granato. The Houston Kinkaid High School product is a three-star 2015 prospect and the apple of the Owls’ recruiting eye.

So much so, in fact, that David Bailiff and/or his coaching staff sent a letter to the player’s cat. And, yes, the letter was addressed to the player’s cat. Kitty Granato, to be specific.

“As you know we’re trying to convince J.T. Rice is the place for him. I know you’d like to keep him close so he can feed you and change the litter box. Please help us to get him to choose us. Paw me if you have any questions.”

Entire article: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...n-note-to-qb-recruits-cat-nets-rice-a-verbal/

I wonder if Ohio State has ever written a recruiting letter to the recruit's pet.

Didn't I read somewhere that this young man (and apparently his cat) will be matriculating at Rice in the fall? If my gray cells are correct, then it's kinda obvious this ploy was successful, and they got their (both) recruits they wanted. Maybe gratuitous sex on a boat on the Caribbean is the way to one recruits heart, four lobsters at a sitting is another, hallowed halls of ivy and Rhodes scholars is anothers......it seems to have worked. Go Bucks!

FYI, SI has an article on '11 worst recruiting tactics', and the cat thing takes number one. The eleven simply illustrates who much coaches prostitute themselves to bring in talent to their school. Hopefully, tOSU will not stoop to those levels in my lifetime. I hope tOSU head/assistant coaches have more self-respect than that. Having said that, let me contradict myself by saying " whatever works!". It appears that tOSU is offering sophomores in HS. Not certain whether these are 'commitable' offers, but one thing is certain, when tOSU offers, ALL other colleges take notice, and that kid is 100% guaranteed to get more offers.

Go Bucks! However it gets done.
