Another way to say it is a young team. Hopefully they get more practice by getting into the playoffs.there are only 12 seniors in 2014.

In the Nick Conner thread, 45 said there were offers and there were OFFERS. Maybe we should have all the thread titles changed to indicate which recruits have what kind of offer
That's exactly correct...it's either an OFFER or nothing for in-state kids. OSU to be ready to accept their verbal commitment if they are going to tender an offer...Happened to see this at 11w in a thread about Larry Scott. But a poster mentioned that some Ohio HS coaches weren't too happy with their kids getting non commitable offers from OSU. So if a kid gets an offer now, it will be a commitable offer. This may be a reason we haven't seen Nick Conner and other Ohio kids get offers because the staff wants to see their status with OOS kids first before they offer instate kids who they believe will be Buckeyes once offered. First I've heard of this method, but tends to make sense
I guess what I do not understand is how do you know what offers to out-of-state kids are commendable ones or don't we.That's exactly correct...it's either an OFFER or nothing for in-state kids. OSU to be ready to accept their verbal commitment if they are going to tender an offer...

There's no exact way to know. The biggest cue is how hard is the staff pursuing the recruit. They certainly aren't going to say to a kid in Florida "here's an offer to Ohio State...but we aren't ready to accept a commitment at this time." They just call their coach up or Facebook message them and say "we're offering you". From there they can decide how to proceed...do they really push for the kid to visit soon or do they push for a camp visit this summer. You just have to piece this stuff together because this is how recruiting is changing. Just like kids down South committing early and then still taking visit (ala Ben Edwars). That is how the game is played these days. A kid like Christian Wilkins, Chris Clark or Torrance Gibson who has had OSU coaches at their school multiple times already in 2014 are kids who could probably commit tomorrow. They are kids that are at the top of the board and kids you don't say "no" to. A kid like Deondre Francois, Austin Clark, Nyheim Hymes or Kaleel Gaines probably needs to come to camp to have that offer firmed up. This is how Pantoni, Meyer and the rest of the staff have handled things since they arrived in Columbus.I guess what I do not understand is how do you know what offers to out-of-state kids are commendable ones or don't we.
Well said.We don't know, it is mostly guess work. Sometimes an "OFFER" is obvious based on talent (we would take the Torrance Gibson's and Damien Harris' of the world in a heart beat). Then there are the guys who you assume have an "offer" when the staff insists they camp with us. Since the majority of this distinction is an educated guess, I doubt the mods would be comfortable with labeling the threads accordingly.
Not to mention that all of the information about OFFERS and offers comes from the kids (or their families and high school coaches), and they might be as confused about the distinction as everybody else not named Meyer or Pantoni. We don't know, it is mostly guess work. I still remember the offensive lineman from TN committing to an offer he didn't have. Kenyon Buford
He ended up at Middle Tennessee State.
Interestingly, his "player profile" page at MTSU states that Kenyon "originally committed to Ohio State."
The OSU Football name, is kind of like Neiman Marcus. People like to work into the conversation, they shop there. And hey, if Buford works out,.....we'll just blame Bollman.Kenyon Buford

And I originally committed to Scarlett Johansson...Technically true.
Yeah but it was always a "soft" commit on her end because he took an official visit to my pad shortly after. Sorry, she didn't stand with Wade. And I originally committed to Scarlett Johansson...
