tOSU Recruiting Discussion

For '14, my guess is that maybe Dixon gets time on the perimeter and Samuel gets significant time at the Pivot. Not sure if we find a way on Dixon but I really think we'll find a way with Samuel.

For '13, I agree on Jalin. He made plenty of noise with his talent but he just needed to adjust to the position. For anyone to have a Harvin comparison in terms of style, I think it's Jalin. Incredibly quick, strong build to get multiple touches, and is explosive with the ball in his hands...plus he can block with his frame if he is willing. I think Jalin makes a big impact next year. Also, Clark looked prime for some PT before his injury. If he comes back healthy, we could see him stretch the field for us. But the biggest impact from '13 will be Corey Smith (though he technically will be a redshirt junior). All reports said he was the best receiver at bowl practices and down the stretch by a significant margin. Heck, he might take the #1 spot and have Devin at #2.
Agree. I think Corey Smith gets significant minutes.

Also, with a new O Line, I expect there to be more focus on the short/intermediate passing game so Brax can get the ball out quick.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Dixon and Samuel have some impact on the offense for '14 guys.

Quick question for anyone following recruiting a bit closer than I am this year: Who of the 2014 commits will see the biggest impact on the field at WR/H-back/TE?

Also: Who of the 2013 commits will see the biggest impact at WR/H-back/TE?

I'm still a Jalin Marshall fan, and I hope he does big things SOON. What does everyone else think?

I hate to copycat the last 2 posters, but it's hard to go against Samuel and Dixon for the 2014 class, especially because they enrolled early. They have a big head start on the rest at their position.
And Jalin Marshall makes a lot of sense for 2013, though I think it's cheating to include Corey smith(though he has the best chance) because he's a Juco transfer and not necessarily in his second year in college. Corey will make things very interesting for the returning starters at WR.

I would trade keeping Jamarco for not landing any more new recruits to finish this class. He's going to be a big cog for this O-Line going forward in a position we desperately need this year.

With that said, if we were able to keep Jamarco AND land Malik McDowell, that would be a huge coup for us. In addition to that, it keeps them away from Sparty, and it would make great bar fodder for TSUN fans that we pulled the top 2 recruits from their state. For me, it's the equivalent of getting Hoke back for him invading Ohio during Urban's 1st recruiting class.

Yes, but if that were to happen would we be able withstand the onslaught of Dantonio's hypocritical crying?

So who makes the biggest impact on the defensive side from the 2013/2014 classes? I like to think Cam Burrows making the switch to FS will be huge for the Buckeyes next year. The kid is an absolutely dynamic player.

I think Vonn Bell becoming a starter will be big for our secondary. Haven't had a ball hawk at S for a while. Cam Burrows Is also a very good move and can pay off very well, but I may put Eli apple or Gareon Conley winning a spot opposite Doran Grant as the other biggest impact for the 2013 kids.

For 2014, I'd have to go with McMillan, first because he enrolled early, and he comes in at a position of need, with a starter he can realistically beat out. McMillan should be pushing Grant hard at MLB by spring. I'd really like to put Sam Hubbard, but he needs to learn the OLB position. And also Jalyn Holmes, but he needs to get in the weight room and put on some weight before he can consistently compete at DE.

This is biggest impact on defense, as in their presence will be most felt making tackles, disrupting plays etc?

2013 class: Joey Bosa. Easy pick. So far he is clearly the best player from that class. Unless we are talking "new" impact guy then the award goes to Joey for the second straight year. BEAST.
2014 class: The Chef. Only guy I can see having a chance to contribute right away. Most impact during their career? I'm going with Erick Smith. From what I saw at the All Star game this guy just "has it."

No offense to Njoku but I would rather add another big man to the equation, tOSU has added a ton of playmakers the last few year, give us some more big uglies. Bring on MM.

Njoku was always a luxury to me and not a necessity, that's why I never thought getting Gesicki was a big deal. We need talent up front on the line and to keep it stocked. Skill positions are looking good, just need guys to get up to college speed.

I'm going to say biggest impact of guys that haven't already had a huge impact (which excludes Dontre and Bosa):

'13 offense: Ezekiel Elliott, but that is too obvious. He is my pick to get the most carries next year and this is coming from a guy who thinks that Rod, Dunn, and Ball all have a big future here. Next in line is Jalin Marshall. I think we are going to have two solid outside guys in Devin and Corey Smith, but need a guy to step up in the slot. Jalin is built for the part and was just learning the position...we will try to get him the ball in space.

'13 defense: Mike Mitchell. Easy choice for me, tore it up the second half of the season in practice and UFM almost burned his redshirt to play him. Mike is going to have a year in the system and some Coach Mick time...he is going to be a nightmare for the next 3-4 years to opposing offenses. My bold prediction is that he is the best LB in our defense next year. However, Burrows and Bell will take over the safety spot and I think we see big things from them. There will be growing pains but I think we see some excitement back there. And I also would not be surprised to see either of Apple or Conley step up to take the other corner spot. Other wild prediction from me is that Worley grabs some PT from Powell at Star.

'14 offense: Samuel. Too explosive not to see the field, period. Second vote is Demetrius Knox, already has the right weight distribution and physical talent to push for a starting spot. Haven't been this excited about an interior offensive lineman since Brewster.

'14 defense: No idea here. I would say McMillan except I think we have two LBs on the field at the same time and he doesn't start, but gets good PT. My next best guess is Damon Webb, he is ready to be in the hip pocket of a college WR now. However, I perceive that we are stockpiled here with young talent here and if Webb plays, I would be concerned a bit. Also, do not count out Erick Smith to make a push...he is going to at least play on special teams, maybe even push for the Star. I think we have an amazing defensive recruiting class but I just think that most of them are a year or so away from making an immediate impact. Plus, the
13 defensive class was so good that after a year of development, it is hard to bet against them.
