tOSU Recruiting Discussion

With the Lonnie Johnson decommit, I believe we are at 17 currently. I like to think that Marshon Lattimore, Erick Smith and Raekwon McMillan are all going to be Buckeyes. Which gets us to 20.

Maybe 4 more on top of that?

1. I think the staff badly wants a JUCO OL. Mavety seems to be most likely but Avery Gennesey seems like a viable alternative. If they strike out with the JUCOs, maybe Ragnow?

2. Most of the new names popping up are DBs. Along with Lattimore, E. Smith, Hooker and Webb it seems we are gunning for at least 1 more DB for a total of 5 in the class. I think this will be the position that we get a guy that is kind of an Urban special that nobody was really expecting in the class. Probably a southern guy.

3. I think the LJ decommit opens up a spot for another skill position guy on offense. Maybe Johnnie Dixon. Maybe urban and co. can pull off something with a TE or bigger WR, but I am guessing they would like 1 more weapon. If Devin Smith leaves early, this becomes even more likely.

4. A spot reserved for a 5 star guy who is just too good to pass on regardless of position. Solomon Thomas is the most obvious name. JuJu Smith is another. Coaching changes at other programs after the season might put some other top recruits back on the market also.

If I had to guess on the final 6 or 7, I would go:

Raekwon McMillan
Marshon Lattimore
Erick Smith
Chad Mavety
Terrance Alexander
Johnnie Dixon
Solomon Thomas

That may be a bit pie in the sky, but it is not unrealistic. Would be a fantastic finish to another great class.

I guess I do not understand why more recruits do not sign the mid-year agreement guaranteeing them of a scholarship. I mean they really do not have anything to lose because it does not bind the recruit to come to Ohio State. I do not know if it would turn off other colleges are not and I know some recruits like to take other trips just for fun and sun.

Just browsing Pantoni's twitter, looks like Samuel, Trout, Nuernberger, Jones and Collier have signed.

In order to sign the mid-year agreement, you also have to be enrolling in school early, which eliminates the possibility for a lot of kids.

Behind in BCS, but numbers breakdown shows Ohio State's talent compares to Alabama and Florida State: Buckeyes recruiting
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State are equals.
Did you feel that? That quick jolt of emotion, that insatiable desire to want to scream out your opinion. That’s the impulse, because no matter who you are, you disagree.
But recent Cleveland.com analysis of the last five recruiting classes assembled by those three teams could make it easier for you to think about biting your tongue.

Interesting read regarding the recruiting rankings and what recruits have really performed on the field.
