tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I wonder if(/when) Johnny football and Kevin sumlin leave aTm, and college station is left in shambles, will their recruits bolt and they'll be included on this list as well. They have some studs, at many positions that would work well on both sides of the ball.

Just curious but why would Sumlin be presumed to want to leave? They are expanding the stadium, he has Texas on its heals for the best in-state recruits, good backing right now, Kyle Allen committed to help the drop off after Johnny Football. I just see that as a pretty legit gig right now. NFL?

So all of the awesomeness resulted in... what? another mid-pack finish in their division?

True. But it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Sumlin stays a while there.

Don't be surprised also, if sumlin left for a "big boy" school like USC, Texas or Florida, etc. A&M is a nice job, but not a place where one would stay for a career. I couldn't imagine this team without Johnny manziel, they'd be far worse off. A terrible defense, and a QB that's the whole offense, not an equation for a winning team on an annual basis.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that Sumlin is getting all this talk. His took a team with a mediocre at best defense, and it still has a mediocre at best defense. He took a team that had a mediocre at best offense and turned it into a good offense by simply by taking an athletic quarterback and letting him ad-lib. A lot of their best results come off of broken plays. Their offense is all over the place, hot and cold.
He took a perennial 4-6 loss team and moved to the SEC and went 11-2 and beat Bama. It looked great, but I think one of the reasons he only lost 2 games is that he moved into a league where they aren't used to that style of play and it caught them off guard. SEC is full of traditional offenses. I think last year if he was still in the Big 12 he would have lost 2 maybe 3 games as well. Guess what, now the SEC West teams are figuring it out. With our without Sumlin or JFootball I think they remain steady at 3-4 losses a year.

Without johnny football AND sumlin, a&m turns into ole miss or miss st. Teams that get good players but still underachieve, and have meltdown seasons of not even making a bowl game. Sumlin leaving would greatly help UT, as well as LSU and the other texas teams

Agreed 100%. Sumlin staying helps them recruit better, and win a few more games, but I don't see them ever going to the SEC title game. Even with him, they will be a perennial 2-3 loss team. I just feel people are getting way too excited about Sumlin for winning one game.

A lot of times, all a coach needs is one signature win to boost his name recognition. Charlie cheeseburger did it by beating scUM in his first year. jHoke did it by beating Osu in his first year. Sumlin beat the defending champion, and a team that is now reaching mythical status with how many NCs they've won. It's a pretty big win, and one that would/could propel him into a position at an elite school(which A&M isn't and won't be). And sumlin and A&M should be worried about big brother UT, because if they finally get Mack out and can bring in a more competent coach, UT could return to prominence in a hurry.

It wasn't the scUM game win that put Charlie ahead. It was the close loss to USC...
