Game Thread tOSU at NW'ern, Oct 5, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

this team isn't shutting anyone down. what they're doing is outscoring them.

and that is playing with fire.

Tresselball was constantly playing with fire against good teams as well by always keeping them within striking distance if the defense ever cracked.

Which fire is more fun/better to play with?

There are no teams left on OSU schedule with a WR good enough to do what the former walk-on did against OSU. Smooth sailing from here.

Abbrederis was able to do what he did because OSU was so intent on stopping the run. No one remaining on OSU's schedule has anywhere near the running game (both in terms of talent on the line and talent in the backfield) that UW has. That's not to say that OSU can't lose, though. This weekend will be a very tough game, and OSU will have to play fundamentally sound and not turn the ball over to win.

It's not about out scoring opponents it's about making teams play left handed and do something they don't want to do which is what we accomplished against Wisconsin.

This past game shouldn't have been close though. Our defense did enough but as good as our offense is we could've done so much more. Dropped td passes, and going down field when all we need is 5 yards to continue numerous drives.

I want to this the offense get back to picking up massive amounts of first downs at high tempo. With the occasional deep ball

Me thinks Allen Robinson, who has posted 3 125+ yard games this year disagrees. Additionally IU has Latimer/Wynn/Hughes. As mentioned before though, this isn't about a talented WR so much as it was a scheming issue.

It'll help more this year but hopefully not to the consistent nature it was against UW.

I would amend what germ said to the following:

"There isn't a team left on tOSU's schedule with a WR/RB combination to do what the former walk-on did against OSU."

It wasn't just Abbycadabby, it was tOSU holding a team averaging nearly 400 on the ground to 100, thus allowing more in the pass game than you would typically see.

IU doesn't have the weapons to force tOSU to scheme around a single facet of the offense. Neither does Ped State.

Have to disagree with the last statement somewhat - while not as talented, IU's offense can create heaps of problems with Sudfeld and the WR's noted to go along with some power like Tevin Coleman and Stephen Houston. They have an offense that will test us as well, but luckily their defense doesn't have a Borland on it :)

In review, Roby had about 4 significant plays he got beat on. He also had about 4 significant plays that he came up big on. The INT, the couple times he came up and stopped the run, etc. Other than that Abby might of had the edge but take away the big plays on both sides and it wasn't as bad as it may have seemed. And, yes, Roby's early injury may have slowed him down a bit. Still, you can't take anything away from Abby. The dude is a baller and comes to play. Wish we had him on our team along with Borland.

i don't know if you've been watching the same games that i have. but the only team that the Buckeyes have 'shut down' was FAMU, and they're a freaking junior high team. Cal had 550 yards. Abbrederis had 200 yards.

This x1654765.. tOSU has been playing with fire for a decade.. and its what we have all grown to know.. the squeeky wins and the unimpressive everything is everything I've grown to know..
But I also know
There is not one other team in the B1G that could scare us other than the one one who is across from them in Indianapolis, because that will be the marbles or the toilet

Who are you talking to? I didn't say a word about domination. I've been watching the same games as everyone else, I presume. In CFB, having a dominant O and D the same season is rare. tOSU had a pretty dominant D under Tress. Fans complained about the offense. Under Urban, it seems to be headed the opposite way. It's to be expected, imo. Now instead of shutting down high powered offenses and winning 10-3, tOSU will slow down good offenses and win 45-33.

Abracadabra has been doing it long enough at a high level that we can dispense with the former walk-on stuff. Dude is probably going to be 1st or 2nd team Big Ten this year.

It was clear they were going to go to him all game long and Roby drew that assignment and got his lunch money taken yet again. Maybe he's not all the way into the groove with his suspension - certainly the coaches trust him enough to put him mano y mano with the other team's best/only threat. I don't know. Doesn't matter. They won. Now beat Northwestern.

I don't get it. Last season the Bucks were 12-0. So far this year, the Bucks are 5-0. Their wins are by scores of 40-20, 42-7, 52-34, 76-0 and 31-24. The wisky game probably shouldn't have been as close (at least on the scoreboard) as it was, but they did win by 7 in a game that really wasn't as close as the final score indicates. (And they were favored by what, 7.5 or 8?)....after reading some of these posts sound like they've lost 3 games already this year - or have been taken down to the wire by MUCH lesser teams (cough, cough, scUM)

Look, going into this season, everyone knew the offense should/would be pretty good and that (after losing 6 of their starting front 7) the defense would likely take a little while to find their identity. So far, the team has lived up to that prognostication perfectly. Why exactly then, is it so ridiculous or unacceptable that what is happening is precisely what most people had predicted was going to happen?
