Game Thread tOSU at NW'ern, Oct 5, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

Something changed though from last year to this year. Teams avoided robey and now teams go right after him. Its strange, because now teams avoid grant.

Bluffton that's what I'm saying. Theyve played some pretty bad teams but really haven't impressed in those games. I think NW will make some plays but their defense won't be enough to keep us in check. Only way we lose this game is if we make massive amounts of errors and turnovers

Wisconsin wasn't going right at Roby. They were throwing to their only WR who could catch. Did any other WR even have a ball thrown their way? If so, did they catch it? I seriously doubt the Wisconsin staff sat in the film room before the game and said "Hey Not Bert, we have a great idea. I think we should throw a billion times to whoever Roby is covering."

This x10

their Quarterback never even looked at anyone else most of the night.

Wisconsin completed a total of 20 passes.

10 went to Abradinkerus for 207
10 went to 4 other receivers for 88 yards

So, yeah, Stave didn't really go to anyone else for much of the night. However, you can't discount that Roby didn't have solid position on most of those 10 completions, something that we wouldn't have expected to see from him.

Again, I think NW could be a "get healthy" game for Bradley. Overrated offense IMO (Agree with you, BuckIpower) that doesn't throw it equals breakout game for Roby.

Out of the other 10, I think at least 6 were screen passes

And how many were to TEs?

I'm not saying Roby could have or should have played better. None of us know how much the injury effected him. My point was just that no coaching staff...even after the Wisconsin game...is going to say, "We need to attack Roby".

There are no teams left on OSU schedule with a WR good enough to do what the former walk-on did against OSU. Smooth sailing from here.

Cal passed 53 times. I don't feel Roby was exposed, but that's my opinion. According to a post on the previous page, NW under Fitz is 1-6 coming off a bye. I watched that Cal NW game, and I was hoping NW would win. It was closer than the tOSU Cal game, imo, by a pretty big amount.

With Roby, it is moreso the plays he is giving up...I would understand more if they were blown assignments but alot of his yards surrendered are caused by lax technique. I will admit that I only saw the box score to the Cal-NW game and the truth is the OSU-Cal game wasn't as close as the box score indicated.

Good research to whoever pointed out Fitz' record coming off a bye week. That is really bizarre, I just assumed that would always be a benefit. I just felt that everyone here is dismissing NW based on our past matchups with them rather than the talent they have on the field and at coach this time around. I know they aren't Bama but I always thought on paper (and still do) that NW has the best chance of anyone on our schedule to pull off the upset against us. Granted it may be a push between Wisky, scUM, and NW, I think they are every bit as good if not better than those teams. That being said, I think if we stick to our strengths we get the win.

Exactly. Stick to our strengths which is run teams north/south, east/west, throw the ball in the flats, intermediately, and deep. I did not like all of the throws that were bombs because too many times we got behind the sticks and my money is on our offense when we start getting first downs in chunks. I mean pick your spots at least with the deep ball such as on 2nd and short

I said the same thing to my brother after the game. There were some 3rd and shorts on the other half of the fifty where we went deep. I assumed that meant we were going for it on 4th but we punted.

After the game, Herman said Braxton didn't "grade out well at all." Apparently there were a lot of mental mistakes, and I bet they involved at least 3 of the plays where Braxton went deep instead of checking it down.

That's the only area I saw any rust, with the exception of him being tentative to run early: his decision making. He seemed a bit off in his progressions, often locking on and going deep. In fact, I don't know if he checked down more than a couple times...in fact, Hyde caught 1 pass, and Heurman 2. Every other pass was 10 yards or more, at least I believe so.

i don't know if you've been watching the same games that i have. but the only team that the Buckeyes have 'shut down' was FAMU, and they're a freaking junior high team. Cal had 550 yards. Abbrederis had 200 yards.

this team isn't shutting anyone down. what they're doing is outscoring them.

and that is playing with fire.

I remember having the same feeling of everything being a deep pass except for a few check downs/designed short yardage routes. I don't have access to game tape like Herman obviously does, so maybe that was what the defense was giving, but I'm guessing not.
