Sorry I didn't respond sooner--I was trolling on a Georgia football website. Oh, wait--I wasn't.

Spirited disagreement = trolling?
Love how that defination changes when it suits you or (in this instance) when feelings are hurt.

I'll make an effort to be more respectful of your delicate sensibilities moving forward. Will plan on waiting for at least two pages of comments to pass until I make a post.

Ohio State is one of the NCAA's "Big Bad Bullies". Bringing them down would give ESPN a hard-on for years.
Boise is one of their favorite Cinderella stories of the past 10 years. Bringing them down would be like disowning your kid.

I think Boise State is getting snubbed by ESPN coverage. If I were a Bronco fan I would be pissed that I couldn't hear about the debauchery of my school on X-M radio as I drive across the country. It's a case of the haves (OSU) and the have nots (BSU). They worked hard for their NCAA sanctions and deserve their coverage.

Taken individually, I'm sure they are secondary violations, but taken as a whole, that is definitely a major violation, especially if they occurred during the same summer (and it sounds like they did).

I don't think the football team will be directly hit with anything major as a result of their actions, but if the "Lack of institutional control" sticks they could get quite a bit of residual damage just by being in the list that makes up the total charge.

Boise apparently had 20 major violations. Total benefit to the football team was about $5000.

2. Football
Allegation: Assistant coaches and staff members arranged summer housing and transportation for 63 prospective student-athletes in order for them to participate in summer workouts. Forty received impermissible benefits totaling $4,934.
BSU comment: The university does not dispute the violations.

So, five players sell their own shit (albeit against NCAA rules) and they get five games off, and their head coach gets the same five games plus a quarter million dollar fine and the ire of the media world because he half-assed tried to keep it quiet. Let's see what happens to BSU coaches and staff members who knowingly and systematically provided impermissible benefits to dozens of prospects. The biggest reason why rules are in place is to keep colleges from getting unfair advantages in recruiting, and that's exactly what BSU was doing here. So, yeah...fuck Boise State...

Hey now! :pissed: Coach was tremendously successful keeping it quiet. Who could foresee a Big-10 Conference expansion e-mail hunt?

Yep. Using KY Scotch Bonnet Flavor lube...they deserve an appropriate penalty. Scholarship cuts, post-season bowl game ban, show cause on the coach, made to paint the friggin' field green.
