The Smurficial Boise State Broncos Thread

What are you talking about?

That's the media's 'perception' of Nebraska once Bo got there - that's why they always flash to him for reaction shots once a penalty is called.

They also pre-judge calls on the field (like the hit to Gabbert, the BS PF call in the A&M game....both on Osbourne) when it comes to Nebraska players.

Are you sure? I'm not familiar with that impression?
Most everyone in SEC circles has very high regards for the Huskers, probably because they have high regard for Pelini.

I live in Cincinnati now and nobody trashes Nebraska football by labeling them as dirty. Maybe it's limited to Big12 country?

Listen to Ed Cunningham. He did a few of our games this year and LOOOOOVED to say every hit was dirty.

that was a helmet to helmet on the QB. should have been a flag

It wasn't helmet-to-helmet any more than any other play where a ball-carrier is tackled. Such hits happen nearly every play in football.

The purpose of the helmet-to-helmet rule is to stop players targeting other players with their helmets. Gabbert ducked his head into the hit as Osborne nailed him. Osborne was clearly not intentionally leading with his helmet, hence no flag.

This is still a contact sport, after all.

But don't worry - they made up for it by taking away the fumble and ensuing TD and giving Missouri the ball at the spot of the hit. Why? Because the QB's forward progress had stopped.

The refs actually made up for it in the A&M game, LOL....and THEN some.

Boise doesn't get that same break, but we should still be fair to them.

In case you're wondering how some BPers looked at that Neb-aTm game last year, I made a post just looking at all of the refs calls. Post 74

The true, damaging and dangerous helmet-to-helmet intentional hits are so blatantly obvious they should never be able to mistake a normal tackle for one, but they manage to do so, a lot it seems. The problem is that they seemed to get a little too call-happy with that rule. I saw several plays over the course of last season where they called helmet-to-helmet, and then the very next play the same contact happened, same players, no call. So annoying, and so horribly inconsistent that it makes the rule useless because it forces the players to play even more cautiously.
