Boise State Gets Slapped with "Lack of Institutional Control"

Truck Driver U gets slapped by the NCAA in multiple sports, including football, with "lack of institutional control." :slappy:

Read the awesomeness!

The NCAA has charged Boise State with a lack of institutional control following an alleged major violation in women's tennis and secondary violations in four sports, including football.

The school released its official response to the allegations on Monday evening and will go before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions on June 10. A final report and penalties will be issued several months after that meeting.

When this popped up on SportsCenter, I busted up laughing and figured you all might appreciate this bit of news.

Somewhere Kirk Herbstreit is crying in his soup...

I will not say anything else about this other than other programs' glass houses are starting to crack as well. Some consistency from the NCAA would be a good thing.

I think the funniest thing is that the lack of institutional control charge came from the report on women's tennis. Before that, everything was minor infractions, and then when they found that out, they rolled it all together for the big one. Wonder what the damage to football is going to be?

Also, I laugh at this because I know every single institution who has any superior position in any sport (or is trying to gain said position) cheats and does some underhanded things. I don't try to convince myself otherwise. That this happened to the media darling underdog makes it funny. Wonder how long before something about TCU comes out? That would be a little more difficult, though, as its a private university.

biggest question is will espin cover...cover and recover this like they have tOSU and Jim Tressel......I am guessing they don`t. Go Bucks

Should they? Consistent argument from these parts is that the program isn't relevant, so do they deserve similar coverage?

Can't have it both ways....

equal to OSU? No but still plenty of coverage to match the amount of focus they pay to them as their unofficial home for boise state football games.

If the penalties include scholarship reductions and bowl bans, you have to wonder if Chris Petersen sticks around. He is their program, and once he leaves, they're going to fall back into the muck of obscurity from whence they came.

There are schools with a tremendous base that lends itself to perpetual greatness. Half the Big Ten is like that, half the SEC, some of the Big 12, etc. Boise State is not one of those schools. Ten years ago their fans couldn't half fill that high-school sized stadium. The bulk of their fan base hasn't even outgrown their first Broncos t-shirt. Once Petersen leaves - and I firmly believe he will when the right gig comes along - they're done. Done, done, done.

Problem is that this site doesn't control ESPN. So while the argument from many here is that the program isn't relevant, ESPN disagrees. Thus the coverage of the story should be looked at from ESPN's point of view in comparison to how they normally cover BSU in order to see if there is a lack of, equal, or too much coverage of BSU's new issues.

Doesn't matter how we feel about it. The question was if ESPN would cover it, because they sure give BSU a lot of attention otherwise.

Didn't hear a thing after almost 2 more hours of SportsCenter. Of course, in fairness, I didn't hear a single thing about tOSU, either. I'll check back when College Football Live is on later, its back to CNN for my homework background noise.
