Charlie Strong is a strong choice. He isn't a home run, though.

I fully expect Tejas under Charlie Strong to reach the levels that Mack reached his first few years, with the exception being that I wouldn't expect a NC under him.

What I find interesting in the Texas coaching search is that they are starting from the bottom of their list and working their way up.

That may sound silly, but wait till they get their man. I promise you it will be who they wanted all along.

So here's whats very interesting. This, if true, is a Patterson (AD) solo hire. There are no Big Money Doners are backing Strong. The big money guys want Fisher/Saban/Harbaugh/Gurden. This will be a ballzy hire. I think Strong will be good, but not great, I think he will get fed up with the political BS he has to deal with. I also heard a guy (Bucky Godbolt (sp?)) who use to be a coach talk about how earth shattering it would be for Texas to hire a black coach. A caller from Mississippi calls in and rightly points out the Croom to Miss State U was a bigger deal given the history, the guy Bucky proceeds to argue how Tejas would be bigger....

Having grown up in Alabama, I can honestly say ... outside of East Tejas.... this place isn't the south. They get pissy when i say this.. but in the south you can get tooth rot from the sweet tea, in most of Tejas you can't get sweet tea.

New England and the Midwest are completely different but we're all Yankees.

Austin might be Austin, but 90% of Texas is far more similar to Mississippi and Alabama than it is to anywhere in the NE, Great Lakes or West Coast.

Ord you're proving my point Jasper, east Texas. Same with cities like Vidor

Texas is a big state but there are diffferent subsection to it. Not saying there isn't any racism outside of east Texas but let's not act like there aren't sections of the other area listed that dont have/had a problem with racism
