Rutgers Scarlet Knights (official troll of PedSU)

I'm mostly concerned about the use of profane language, but all the grabbing and throwing balls could be especially traumatic to these major-college adult athletes. Thank goodness the school was media-shamed into making a decisive move here, and if there's justice in the world this story will continue in the courts.

Its kind of amazing to me that in my lifetime I've seen this go from run of the mill "disciplinarian" coach to completely unacceptable behavior.

I honestly don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

What ever happened to just firing a guy because he's 16-38 in the Big East and about to move to an even better conference?

Fundamental difference between roughly "readjusting" a kid into a proper position or stance and firing balls at his head. That guy needs to go NOW.

Interesting to see espn leading the charge now that Rutgers is Big Ten. The cynic in me wonders if the outrage would be as palpable were it an SEC team or Texas.

Where's the fun in that?

ESPiN types can't blather on for hours because someone gets fired for sucking at their job.

Ask Mike Price or Pokey Chatman if they feel like they ducked scrutiny in their immediate dismissals.

Irrelevent examples. The Price fiasco went down in 2003 before the Big Ten founded the BTN AND before the financial ties were consummated between SPIN and the SEC--i.e. there was no vested financial interest for ESPN to either go after the Big Ten nor protect the SEC at that time. Same with Champman--BTN was barely up and running (and generally assumed to be a failure in the making), and the long term SEC-SPIN contract was still a year or two away.

When SPIN goes after an SEC program under the current financial ties in the same manner that they've gone after Big Ten programs recently, I'll reevaluate my position.

Remember that whole rape or sexual abuse thing happened around this year's bowl game for Texas (players later cleared of charges)?

I found it funny that the local news broke the story and ESPN -- with the Longhorn Network and all -- sat back.

Don't forget the Alabama robbery thing from this year too.

Don't worry, honestly I think the Big Ten will sign deals with FOX and CBS next time around. Then we can see "The Mouse's" reaction (they'll probably try to drum up more negative Big Ten stories).

And since the New Jersey governor is now involved, Rutgers may want to think about launching an in-house investigation and perhaps cleaning up the athletic department (if possible).

Fair point. But if that's the baseline criteria for evaluating media coverage of a scandal, we have to also establish a year. 2010? 2011?

As such, I'm going to mirror your verbage when others reference a scandal prior to that year and declare it "irrelevant."

Bo Pelini sees nothing wrong with this.

It seems like with certain schools, when the media pushes for somebody, that's who the school hires.

The media in Chicago really seemed to push for Chris Collins. He may have been the best candidate (only coach school interviewed), but he was also who was pushed for.

Media seems to be pushing for Dan Hurley for Rutgers.

Someone made a point to me in a PM that I thought was interesting;

I went through this kind of stuff, and worse, as an athlete and soldier. It really didn't bother me.

As a middle aged parent if I saw someone even come close to this level of behavior with one of my kids I would go berserk.
